JAMMU: In the fourth incident of ceasefire violation within a week, Pakistani troops pounded Indian posts along the Line of Control (LoC) with mortar shells in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, injuring an army jawan.

Pakistani troops armed with heavy machine guns, mortars and UBGL grenades fired at several Indian posts along the LoC in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district at around 2200 hours last night, a senior Army officer told PTI.

The firing continued till the wee hours today, he said, adding that the Indian troops guarding the border retaliated, resulting in an exchange of fire.

One army jawan sustained minor injuries in the incident, the officer said.

This is the fourth incident of ceasefire violation in the last one week.

Earlier, on June 15, Pakistani troops resorted to small arms firing on Indian posts along the LoC in Poonch district.

On June 13, three army jawans were injured, one of them critically, when Pakistani troops opened fire on Indian posts along the LoC in Krishna Ghati sector.

In a simialr incident on June 11, a Border Security Force jawan was killed after Pakistani troops resorted to small arms firing on Kripan-I, Kripan-II and Kranti posts along the border.

Meanwhile, a flag meet, which was scheduled for yesterday, between Indian and Pakistani Armies on ceasefire violations and cross-LoC firing in Poonch district was cancelled by Pakistani Army without assigning any reason.

Do you folks realise what this does ? It turns Indian public opinion against your country. It impedes trade efforts, bilateral relations and everything else that have been going right.

You are your own worst enemies.

Well said but what makes you said that provocation was from Pakistani side. Here on Pakistani news channels it has been said that India is firing on the civilian population. At the end of the day we might never know actually started. You guys need to tell inidan population about this.

Somehow where gestures are being made at the top level..
incidents like these dont make sense..

IF the PA did initiate the firing.. then it begs the question..
WHO is in control? Even after the Chief makes a fairly pacifist statement in nature.. somebody starts firing..

If the IA started this.. then what of the all the CBMs...

Is it possible that a civillian was mistaken for an intruder by the IA.. fired at.. which was taken by PA as firing on them and retaliation was taken in full.
Even then.. WHY was retaliation taken in full?
Does everybody not have the memo that the idea is to keep cool and calm??

Your media give wrong propaganda stories, stop believing them. It is always indian army who start firing first dreaming that whole Kashmir is their baba's jageer, Pakistan Army has to reply back to save civilians in AJK.

P.S I post similar comment in one other thread & i have no clue why was it deleted & Mod send me infraction claiming that my post was offensive, can anyone point out what offensive is in this post?

Thts cool... we pound you... when u deserve it.... dnt annoy Pak Rangers in the first place!

Problem is that their side start it first & when Rangers reply them than their propaganda start & they make world think as if Pakistan is aggressor & they are victims.

Pak fires crisis along the border

A serious situation has erupted on the Line of Control (LoC) following unprovoked firing by Pakistani army, which has been using heavy automatic and small arms fire to target Indian forward positions in different sub-sectors of Poonch since Monday.

Two soldiers, including a BSF personnel, have been killed and two others injured in the firing.

Efforts to de-escalate the situation received a jolt when Pakistan postponed the flag meeting scheduled to be held at Chakan-Da-Bagh on Saturday without giving any reasons. The Cross-LoC trade via the Chakan-Da-Bagh crossing also remained suspended, awaiting de-escalation of the situation in the Krishna Ghati Sector.

“The situation remains tense (on the LoC) but under control,” said Col RK Palta, defence spokesman at Jammu

The crisis deepened on Saturday night when Pakistan army once again fired on Indian posts in the Krishna Ghati sector without any provocation.

“Pakistan resorted to unprovoked firing, using heavy automatic and small arms fire, from 12 different posts at 10.pm Saturday. Later at 11.15 pm, Pakistan fired mortars and a large number of high explosive rounds on Indian posts in the same area. The firing continued till 12.30 am on Sunday ,“ Col Palta said.

The Indian army also retaliated by controlled effective firing to the Pakistani provocation. “Troops exercised utmost restraint. The response to Pakistani firing, though controlled, was effective fire. The Indian Army continues to maintain a high level of alert all along the LoC,” he added.

The tension started on Monday when Pakistani forces violated the ceasefire at Krishna Ghati sub-sector of Poonch sector in which a BSF jawan was injured. He succumbed to wounds on Wednesday night.

Pakistan forces on Wednesday afternoon, however, upped the ante and opened indiscriminate firing on Indian positions causing injuries to two soldiers, one of whom later succumbed.

The Indian Army immediately reached the Pakistani army through the hotline asking for restraint to de-escalate the situation. “Instead of responding to the Indian message, Pakistanis repeated the firing, injuring another jawan. Seemingly unsatisfied with Indian restraint, Pakistan continued to fire (on Indian posts). On the night of June 15 our posts again came under small arms fire from the Pakistan side,” Col Palta said.

The Indian Army regretted that all attempts towards de-escalation of the situation and the resumption of routine life for civilians in the area, have received a negative response.

Around 102 ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir have taken place since 2010. Around 44 cases of ceasefire violations along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir were registered in 2010. Around 51 cases of ceasefire violations were reported in 2011.

India and Pakistan declared cease-fire on all the three borders -- 772Km LoC, 192 Km International border and 122 Km Actual Ground Position Line (AGPL) in Siachen – in 2003.

Mark my words, this won't blow over so easily. People are already starting to get agitated and policy makers are becoming more vocal.

UPA government is losing excuses to rescue Pakistan.

^^^ you should mate . guess what we are not going any where . you cant change you location . so peace(in whatever form) should be pursued.

This is what you get for firing on civilians.

Pak Rangers to hold talks with BSF in Delhi next month

The chiefs of Pakistan Rangers and BSF, the border guarding forces of the two countries, will for the first time meet here next month to thrash out a host of issues including recent incidents of firing along the Indo-Pak border.

The five-day Director General (DG)-level talks, beginning July one, are being held for the first time in Delhi. Earlier venues for talks between the two forces manning key frontiers on their respective sides have been places like Jalandhar, Amritsar and Chandigarh.

The 20-member Border Security Force (BSF) delegation will be led by its Director General U.K. Bansal while the other side will be headed by Pakistan Rangers chief Major General Rizwan Akhtar.

Both the forces will discuss issues related to the border areas which include trans-border crime, smuggling of fake Indian currency and narcotics with a special focus by the BSF on regular ceasefire violation instances along the International Border (IB).

The meeting will also discuss the issues of the Jammu and Punjab areas which are being dealt by the two forces.

“This is the first time the Pakistan Rangers delegation is coming to Delhi. They will be hosted for talks at the force headquarters here,” a senior BSF official said.

Both the forces have a tradition of holding bi-annual talks, with each side visiting the other country once an year.

Regular flag meetings are held by local commanders on a need and emergency basis.

The BSF is also expected to raise the issue of unauthorised constructions along the Indo-Pak border during the talks.

Establishing a hotline between the force commanders will also be discussed at the meet.
