Union Minister for Power Piyush Goel hands over merit awards to students
Union Minister for Power Piyush Goel on Friday called for greater efforts in providing education and skill development training to the youth as it would play a crucial role in making India a truly global superpower in the near future.
“Nelson Mandela used to say that education is such a powerful weapon that it can change the world. That kind of education combined with values, culture and hard work would help our country achieve its goal,” said Mr. Goel.
During his one-day visit to Nellore district, Mr. Goel visited the facilities provided at the Swarna Bharath Trust at Venkatachalam near here for giving training to the youth in various self-employment aspects. He also took part as chief guest in the merit awards distribution programme held for students of various schools in the district.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Goel stressed the need for providing a holistic development atmosphere in schools and educational institutions which would lead to multi-fold exposure of students to sports, skill development, culture and heritage of the country. “This is the only way Indian society could make progress and pursue its aspirations for a greater role in the world nations,” he added.
Mr. Goel further said that teaching and learning of good aspects of life should be greatly imbibed in the college level itself as the lack of such a thing would make children take to a wrong path where they tend to commit wrongdoings. The children should be made to learn punctuality, integrity, probity and value systems, he said.
Supreme Court Judge Lavu Nageswara Rao stressed the importance of encouraging more and more youth from rural areas to dream big and aspire high for occupying higher positions at the national level with hard work, dedication and discipline.
District Collector M. Janaki called upon the children to learn with true interest rather than mechanically and take inspiration from the award winners to come up in life.
