Six of Pakistan's squad tested positive for Covid-19, hosts New Zealand Cricket said Thursday, throwing preparations for their five-match tour into turmoil and causing a scare in a country that has largely eradicated the virus. The squad's "exemption to train while in managed isolation has been put on hold until investigations have been completed", the governing body said, adding that the six positive players would be moved into strict quarantine. New Zealand's ministry of health said 53 team members passed a symptom check before leaving Lahore and were tested on arrival in Christchurch on November 24.

Six of those results have come back positive, although two of the six cases are believed to be "historical".

New Zealand Health said the players will now "be tested a minimum of four times while in managed isolation" and the entire squad would be confined to their rooms.

New Zealand Health also revealed that "several team members have been seen on CCTV at the facility breaching managed isolation rules, despite clear, consistent and detailed communication of expected behaviours".

"The team as a whole has been issued with a final warning," it said.

"It is a privilege to come to New Zealand to play sport, but in return teams must stick to the rules that are designed to keep Covid-19 out of our communities and keep our staff safe," said top health official Ashley Bloomfield.

Through strict quarantine measures, aggressive testing and snap lockdowns, New Zealand has largely eradicated community transmission of the virus, registering just 1,684 cases since the pandemic began.

Even before Pakistan arrived on Kiwi soil the tour had been hit by ill health, with Pakistan's dashing opener Fakhar Zaman ruled out at the 11th hour with a persistent fever.

The 30-year-old left-hander tested negative along with the rest of the squad.
The tour, with three Twenty20 internationals and two Tests, is scheduled to begin with the opening T20 on December 18 in Auckland.
New zealand should carry out a serious investigation into the matter...New Zealand is a covid free country...it got a good name all over the world for fighting covid effectively....whoever is responsible for such a grave mistake should be punished and if possible should be expelled immediately.

Law is a law and we all should abide that. Why suddenly AFP is reporting and how quickly an endian is copy pasting this. BTW Pakistan is one of the safest country when it comes to covid cases, while look at endia.

Look at India, which conducts more than a million tests a day.
My state with a population of 30 million alone conducts 65k tests a day on average. Meanwhile, Pakistan conducts 45k tests a day and is talking about how cases in "Endia" are high.

Recall the twitter post by Elon Musk:

"Something extremely bogus is going on. Was tested for COVID four times today. Two tests came back negative, two came back positive. Same machine, same test, same nurse."

How can we trust COVID testing? What is to say that the players were fine when tested in Pakistan and that there are issues with testing kits?

I will narate a first hand experience in Madrid - Spain.
I registered online for the covid test and was given an appointment. The day of the appointment I showed up, it was chaos at the testing center, 100's of people, I realized even if I do not have covid before I will for sure get it today and decided to discard the idea of getting tested.

3 days later I received a phone call stating I am Covid Positive, magical isnt it? :D

because we don't need too. Our daily cases, never crossed 6500 mark. If we had more patients than our daily number would be 10,000 even with 45K tests infact the positive # get lesser by August. Our death ratio is also better than India. Number of tests on daily basis can be increased as well but people don't feel that sick hence daily test conducts revolves around 40K - 50K.

If you don't conduct more testing, then your daily cases will not cross those numbers. Your cases are not slowing down either to argue "You don't need to".

You read it wrong. Your death ratio is in fact higher than India or even Bangladesh for that matter, which points to the fact that you have a lot of positive cases turning up in hospitals for such a young country.

Bro pointing fingers and not accepting your own responsibilities doesn't helps and lets others to have a laugh at us. Who got what number of covid cases is irrelevant here , its our team on the high profile tour and its our responsibility to send them without covid and these kind of headlines doesn't looks good. Now since they have been find out they need to follow NZ SOP rules instead of aggravating the situation.

We conducted 70K plus test for few days as well in late July and Aug but then also number of positive cases were around 6000. Just look at the data, with average 40K tests, number of patients started to go low rather than increase in number. Had the number of positive cases increases that time, than surely there would had been requirement for more tests.

LOL,

India : deaths / 1Million = 98
Bangladesh : deaths / 1Million = 39
Pakistan : deaths / 1Million = 35

Don't troll further for the sake of it now. Lastly, India is in deep sh*t corona mess. Just pray for the vaccine arrival soon.

Bro why you responding to this indian who has a habit of bringing India into every thread?
Finds some bad news relating to Pakistan then comes on here to have a little jab at Pakistani patriots - thats how this chap spends most of his day. Sad soul.
Pakistan cricketers are their own worst enemy - couldnt adhere to the rules - couldnt isolate and mixed with each other. Shame to be honest for a world starved of live sport.
One thing i was amazed at was my mother and i had a corona test last week because she was being admitted into hospital for treatment - she tested negative and i tested positive. Found that difficult to accept as i live and care for her every other hour - so had another test and it came back negative - had ANOTHER test and paid for it - test came back negative. These testing kits arent 100% so one needs to be careful.....

yeah in many cases, corona positive patients felt no symptoms in Pakistan that is why our death rate is relatively lower

Bro - perhaps its the immune system - Pakistani seem to be less effected. In the UK they are dropping like flies.
A prayer today for all our brethren suffering.

95% of COVID-19 patients report no symptoms, finds AKU study

8 September 2020
More than nine out of 10 people infected with the coronavirus experience no symptoms of the disease, according to a new study by Aga Khan University (AKU) researchers. Karachi has the most COVID-19 cases in Pakistan, and the study saw AKU faculty investigate COVID-19’s prevalence in parts of the city with high and low rates of transmission in the community in April and June. They found that 95% of those who tested positive for COVID-19 through blood tests, which register the presence of antibodies to fight the disease, reported feeling no symptoms of the illness such as a cough, fever or sore throat.

There is nothing to "LOL!" about, the death rate is not death per million. The death rate is actually calculated by finding the total number of deaths to the total number of cases. This gives some idea on how testing is going on or how many deaths are really reported as well as cases.

Yeah, we also followed a similar trajectory, but unlike Pakistan, we didn't decrease the number of tests conducted when we saw cases decreasing, rather increased testing day by day. Even now when we have around 40k cases a day, we are only increasing the number of tests than when we had 90k cases a day. That's how it should be, not the other way around.

I didn't bring India into it, your compatriot took India for comparison. And I rarely do bring India into a topic related to Pakistan unless you start comparing.

This is astonishing but heartwarming. Perhaps the in the west people are forced to be more dependent on medication and pushed towards medication for minor ailments resulting a lack of immune resources to sustain an attack from a foreign virus like Covid - thanks for sharing this...
