Sinners judging Sinners for Sinning differently

Nawal Amjad |

Decades and may be centuries have been spent in trying to draw a line of distinction or differentiation between Law and Morality, but in Pakistan – as in most cases: The case’s the opposite.
When the ‘Dynasty of Sharifs’ was seen embracing, what (many long dreamt) and (many never wanted to see) the kind of accountability they did, the above-identified line was even blurred. And Law and Morality all of a sudden became as inseparable as ‘Productive Governments’ are to ‘Friendly Oppositions’, but never mind, all’s well that ends well.

But only if it was the End?The ‘Dawn of the Declared Justice’ had barely risen, that a new dilemma through the Ayesha Gulalayi’s Press Conference started staring into the faces of those celebrating Justice and even those questioning it.Another question of Law and Morality had come into place.
Another series of allegations. Another season of ‘The Pretty Ugly Politics’.For many, this time around, it was all different because the debate was about ‘Moral Corruption’ and not financial, but many didn’t see the commonality.

The debate was about Morality anyway. Those asking Nawaz to leave, because he was no more ‘Sharif’ had forgotten how Politics ain’t an easy peasy game.It is a game of numbers after all.Not just who wins, but how many times!Sticking to Ayesha Gulalayi’s revelations, as of now, about Khan’s character and that of his ‘Tola’ (how she likes calling it) just raised two important questions: One being that did she even realize as to who and what was, she actually referring to?And second being that is it all truth?

Where many fans of Khan found it their utmost responsibility to assassinate Ayesha Gulalayi’s sister’s character as their alternate argument, many found it utterly distasteful and that was quite the case when even Khan officially forbade his supporters to do so.

But unfortunately, these didn’t remain the pertinent questions and what remained or started becoming pertinent was rather: ‘how or how not open-mindedly did her father bring her up?’ Or ‘What clothes her sister’s allowed to wear?

Where many fans of Khan found it their utmost responsibility to assassinate Ayesha Gulalayi’s sister’s character as their alternate argument, many found it utterly distasteful and that was quite the case when even Khan officially forbade his supporters to do so.But did Khan’s request to his followers worked, when his own spokespersons like Fawad Chaudhary to name a few didn’t show respect to their leader’s word? And then the storm of Gulalayi’s interviews had yet not stopped by, that a Journalist as credible as Hamid Mir accepted seeing messages that supported her stance against Khan.

The PML-N’s spokespersons such as Rana Sanaullah were made to realize that their language against this new woman: Ayesha Ahad shouldn’t be the way it is, that a new confrontation between Murad Saeed and Reham Khan began.

In the midst of this, on one hand, the-already-injured N-League was reminding the country of how the ‘Law and Morals’ had both upheld their Leader; regardless of how he was disqualified and on the other hand, Insafians reminding Leaguians of judging them, for sinning differently.

Responding in the same vein
After all, Khwaja Asif’s remarks on Shireen Mazari, Firdous Ashiq Awan and those of Mian Latif about Murad Saeed’s sisters had not been as old as-once upon a time. This grim image had yet not escaped our eyes fully that another woman with another set of allegations, (with PTI women: few seasoned, few new additions) accompanying her, came in. The PML-N’s spokespersons such as Rana Sanaullah were made to realize that their language against this new woman: Ayesha Ahad shouldn’t be the way it is, that a new confrontation between Murad Saeed and Reham Khan began.

No one respecting anyone; neither an institution respecting an institution nor an office-bearer respecting another office-bearer.

Then there’s a return of typical PTI versus PML-N kind of ‘one-on-one’ in the assembly, but this time – surprisingly not amongst them, but within the Party that’s both a custodian of change and epitome of perfection (at least supposedly). An elected MNA and a bunch of others not letting another MNA speak and that too with the discretion of the Speaker, just because the previous weren’t given the chance, in their case? But this assembly’s been called ‘All-thief’ after all.So may be the thieves of one MNA’s rights were themselves MNAs.They surely were. And one MNA not letting another MNA speak is exactly how we can identify almost all of ourselves as well.
