Singapore Arm Forces are widely love, despised and hated by the people. We need a defence force but meanwhile, we abhor our astronomical defence budget. We envy and loath the scandalous remuneration of the arm forces personnel. Given a choice, we would prefer a leaner defence spending, and allocate more resources to healthcare and providing comfortable retirement for the senior citizens.

Surrounded by Malaysia which is increasingly radicalized and Indonesia, a secular but sometimes volatile country, Singapore have no choice but to build up our defence capability. Nevertheless, most people would still want to trim our defence spending.

There is an under-representation of Malay Muslims especially in the elite units. Singaporean citizen have been trying very hard to integrate Malay into the military even though we are always being threatened by Malaysia. The situation improves tremendously over the years. The Indians are well represented and even over represented especially in the NCO corps.

Singapore strives to be a non-racist country where everyone can worship freely without being harass.

When our top army commanders retire, they are revolving door into the local defence contrators as top management, so that they keep their mouth shut and also to make them happy so that they wont destabilized the whole system.

Our Major salary is around USD100,000 per year and army scholars get major after around 3 years in the army. At around 40 years old, the army scholars will get a full colonel and their salary is around USD240,000 or more. The lucky one will be general then and the salary is even more scandalous..

There are a lot of officers around and too little rifleman.

he just wanted to play victim, let him play. While it is true that Indonesia is sometimes vollatile, he misses the fact that Indonesia is more vollatile to internal conflicts every 5 years (presidential election) rather than international conflicts, Invading Singapore is the last thing Indonesia wants to accomplish now.

If someone is really going to break the peace in the region in the future, it would be Singapore. Their growth will someday force them to seek new Lebensraum and push them to take expansionist roles in the region.

There is always Malay in infantry.

However, it is true that there is very few Malay in the air force. I have served in the air force and I did not met any Malay. There are Malay pilot not from my unit, but I heard that he is elite from well-connected family. I think excluding most Malay from air force is bad.

But elite units previously that have few or no Malay like Guards, Mechanize infantry, armor are taking in Malay like nobody.

I think it would be quite soon that air force start taking in Malay.

LOL. I love how we're #5 in defense spending; yet our defense budget is actually <1% of our GNP.

If we were like the Singaporeans and spent at 3.6% our defense budget would be at $216 Billion.

Boy oh boy, would some powers be in panic mode....

Only difference is you are majority ethnic Chinese, so that is the trump card, which can play a decisive role to change the situation in China's favor hopefully, if you can stay majority Chinese and Indian Hindu immigrants don't outnumber you soon.

Actually most people are not aware that USA is extremely hostile towards SE Asia Chinese diaspora. Our PAP government is pro-USA bastard Chinese-Malay with a over-representation of Anglicize Indian.

The bastard Chinese-Malay mixed blood are called Peranakan. They are distrusted by the pure Chinese people but over the years, the have brainwashed the people, and they subsumed their identity by faking as "Chinese". Most of the younger generators are brought up in fake history, and will never know what is going on.

The ally between USA and Singapore serve our interest well. Unfortunately other than the anglicize elites, the normally people do not benefit that much. Singaporeans are now in the process of political awakening due to the exceeding greed of our elites.

If our peranakan can be better towards the Chinese, malay and Indian peasants, the people may not care who is in the power and may let the peranakan lord over them forever.

Under the Peranakan, Singapore is the most pro-USA state in SE Asia. However the peranakan has only greed and no idealism. Who knows they may kowtow and be China lapdog once China is more powerful than USA.
