Sidelining Bandar doesn’t change Wahhabi ideology of KSA: analyst

Press TV has conducted an interview with Kevork Almassian, political analyst, Beirut about the Syrian air force pounding areas in Yabrud to cut off the supply line of foreign-backed militants.

The following is an approximate transcript of the interview.

Press TV: The Geneva Two Conference seems like a distant memory at this point, but, what we’re looking at on the ground here is a major advancement by the Syrian army and if it is able to seize this area it is going to cut off the key supply line that links the militants to the town of Arsal.

What is your reading into the situation there on the ground, which is towards the Syrian army's favor at this point?

Almassian: Exactly... Actually the Syrian army in the last few weeks has tried seriously to cut the supply lines of the foreign-backed militants in Yabrud from the Qalamun mountains and also the suburbs of Yabrud because as we know the major supply line from Yabrud is in Arsal, which is in Lebanon – it is only 50 kilometers away from Yabrud.

And we have to also remember the attack of the Zionist warplanes against the alleged Hezbollah bases also on the border with Lebanon who is trying to support the Syrian army in Yabrud.

This war in Yabrud is very crucial for the Syrian army and for the Syrian state because the Americans and also the Saudis tried to bargain the war in Yabrud with the war in Deraa.

They were threatening the Syrian army and the Syrian State that if you intervene in Yabrud – imagine, they are threatening the Syrian army who will fight ...al-Nusra, which is listed as a terrorist organization on the list of the United States – they were saying to the Syrian state that if you intervene in Yabrud we will send thousands of mercenaries from Jordan to Deraa in order to push back the Syrian army in Deraa and also to put more pressure on the Syrian army alongside the capital.

So, this war is very crucial as I said and the Syrian army has to liberate this area in order to guarantee the security of the capital because many militants and many bombers and car bombs were coming from Yabrud into the capital of Damascus and also into other cities and other villages, which is surrounding Yabrud.

Press TV: The Syrian file obviously was taken away from Bandar, now given to Prince (Mohammed bin) Nayef and Prince Nayef, it has been cited that he is going to reach out to Iran, reach out to Hezbollah - More diplomacy is going to be involved and at the same time all these different terrorists on the ground that has been sponsored by Saudi Arabia through Prince Bandar?

Do you believe it?

Almassian: Look... there is no way possible for them to unite these...factions in Syria. They have different loyalties and different sources for financiers. The major financier was Bandar bin Sultan as we know, but the rift and the conflict inside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has led to push away Bandar bin sultan.

But his successor will be no different form Bandar bin Sultan because they are already arming new growing factions, which has no different ideology from al-Qaeda.

Look... there is different names and different bands for these fighting groups, but what is the ideology? It is the same.

These people are trying to massacre, they are trying to slaughter many civilians in my city in Aleppo, in Damascus, in Yabrud. These people want to end the civil state in Syria. They want to establish a Wahhabi-style country.

So, whether...al-Nusra [front]...or any other FSA, it has no difference it has the same ideology, only the names have been changed.
