Hello Friends.

India, according to sources, has planned to build 5 SSBNs out of which first three will be Arihant class subs.

Last two will be S-4 and S-5 SSBNs.

P.K Sengupta has said S-4 and S-5 will be armed with 6,500 KM range SLBMs.

My question is should S-4 and S-5 SSBNs be able to carry Nirbhay SLCMs too, just like Ohio class

I think S-4 and S-5 SSBNs should be armed with 10 6,500 KM range SLBMs and 6 2,000 KM range Nirbhay Missiles.

This will enable these SSBNs to also attack high value land targets or CBGs, in nuclear war.

I would like to know your opinion

P.S I think S-4 and S-5 will have max displacement between 12,800 tons to 15,000 tons.

How about secular India naming some of these weapons after Christians and Muslims. Why only Hindus?

Indian names.. no?

e.g. Baaz (Mig-29).

Baaz isn't Hindi or Urdu or xyz language.. Btw.. urdu isn't "muslim" language; it's one of the Indian languages.

बाज़; باز

Stupid Troll, I wish you get well(bann) soon..
Never heard of these name>??
Kalam series Missiles,
MiG29 Baaz,
Mil-Mi28 Akbar
Rustom (Persian)
Arihant, Arindham (Jain)
Bahadur (Urdu word, Hindi word is Nirbhaya)

etc..

Do you have anything related to topic?? can u post that?? or I will complaint against you to Mods...
@WebMaster and Mods: please look these two guys
a) @faithfulguy and
b) @trinity

Lets come back to discussion:

I personally think that Small subs are better, The detection of smaller sub will be difficult (My Guess)

Can some one tell me is submerge depth depends upon size??? means Is bigger submarine go deeper than smaller??
@KRAIT, @Russian members , @sancho, @gambit and other members, please tell us how bigger submarine has advanteage over smaller (Apart from firepower..)

Oceanography subs that go to much deeper depths compared to these subs are much much smaller, so size is not the criteria for depth.

thanks, So advantage of bigger subs over smaller?

Subs as a rule need to be submerged and out of sight for long durations, bigger subs facilitate longer periods of loitering time, plus more advanced weaponry and bigger nuclear core. I too would like a more detailed answer to your question from informed members.

SSBN-726 class FBM submarines can carry 24 ballistic missiles with MIRV warheads that can be accurately delivered to selected targets from almost anywhere in the world's oceans. Earlier FBM ships carry 16 missiles. A cylindrical pressure hull structure of HY-80 steel is supported by circular frames and enclosed by hemispherical heads at both ends. The pressure hull provides an enclosure large enough for weapons, crew, and equipment with enough strength to enable the ship to operate deep enough to avoid easy detection.

A streamlined (fish-shaped) outer hull permits the ship to move quietly through the water at high speeds. This outer hull surrounds the forward and aft end of the pressure hull and is not built to withstand deep submergence pressure. It is normally considered as the main ballast tanks. The superstructure is any part of the ship that is above the pressure hull. This would include the sail or fairwater area, and the area above the missile tubes. The streamlined hull was designed specifically for efficient cruising underwater; the Skipjack was the first nuclear-powered ship to adopt this hull form.

The larger hulls accommodate more weapons of larger size and greater range, as well as sophisticated computerized electronic equipment for improved weapon guidance and sonar performance. Improved silencing techniques reduce the chances of detection.

The Ohio-class submarines are specifically designed for extended deterrent patrols. To increase the time in port for crew turnover and replenishment, three large logistics hatches are fitted to provide large diameter resupply and repair openings. These hatches allow sailors to rapidly transfer supply pallets, equipment replacement modules and machinery components, significantly reducing the time required for replenishment and maintenance. The class design and modern main concepts allow the submarines to operate for 15+ years between overhauls. Each SSBN is at sea at least 66 percent of the time, including major overhaul periods of twelve months every nine years. One SSBN combat employment cycle includes a 70-day patrol and 25-day period of transfer of the submarine to the other crew, between-deployment maintenance, and reloading of munitions.

Like all submarines in use by the U.S. Navy today, the Ohio class submarine is powered by a pressurized water reactor (PWR) driving steam turbines to a single propeller shaft. It can attain depths in excess of 800 feet at speeds in excess of 25 knots.

US strategic nuclear force structure will be adjusted to 14 Trident submarines -- four fewer than previously planned -- carrying 24 D-5 missiles, each with five warheads, per submarine. This will require backfitting four Trident SSBNs, currently carrying the Trident I (C- 4) missile, with the more modern and capable D-5 missile system. Under current plans, following START II's entry into force, the other four SSBNs will either be converted into special-purpose submarines or be retired.

Come on guys, just answer the OP if you are interested. What difference do names make?

IMO, Ohio class is too complex for India to follow. 6-8 SLBMs with few SLCMs will be enough deterrent for India at this stage.

I know.

Thats why I said S-4 and S-5 should carry 12 6,500 KM SLBMs and 6 2,000 KM Nirbhay CMs.

Ohio can carry 24 tridents and its SSGN version can carry 154 Tomahawks.

What I suggested is not that much ambitious and within our reach.

What advantage does a SSBN carrying CM gives us ??

It will be better if the role to carry CM be left to dedicated SSGN or SSGK and reserving the SSBN for pure strategic purposes.

^^ Dedicated SSGNs will demand more resources.
