What's new

Should Pakistan start international english news channels?

The issue is broadcasting rights

In USA , Jewish lobbies pressurized Aljazeera greatly once they started to show news in Continental Americas, they were not allowed to just open immediately they were controlled greatly on what they would be allowed to show

It's not easy to get a conventional broadcasting TV licence unless you are under control of some top level observant brass which keeps your news reports in tight control

Large syndicates control distribution of news by reporters and same selected news are distributed across different English "News" sites world wide ....

That is why the narrative appears same globally

I am quite suprized how Russia TV has remained to be operational in North America so far
The Russian Network hired all the US tv analyst who were at some time released from their jobs for any alternative reporting or retired TV analyst who wanted freedom to report on news

Chinese News channels are missing in North America at present

However , as I said "NEWS channels" are closely regulated

Majority of Local city wide TV channels hardly report anything outside of their own country
so majority of people are clueless what is happening outside of the world

That was in 2006 or was cable companies not wanting to carry it then again its not much of matter most folks get their news online AJE has great online content same goes for RT its all needed is good digital content and streaming

In the UK not in the states if you are broadcasting terrestrial yes you would need a license but most channels watched are on pay or cable here so CNN FOX or other cable networks here run on advertising but thanks to the internet Al Jazeera RT have been able to penetrate easily so no need for license

Unfortunately in North America

"News'

Is controlled between Cable Operations (Billion Dollar Entities)
Internet Companies , Telecom (Billion Dollar Entities)
Investors

Their was a huge fuss about merger of AT&T with Timer Warner I think few years back which required a investigation to see if too much power was consolidating with 1 organization to control news and information

Similar debate today wage about Facebook and their role in political opinion

Pakistan's version of is news is Small time reporting , with no field reporters who fly across the planet. The resource aspect is missing to support global Operation for reporting

People follow the Global Channels because they have resources to have their reporter on ground where news is happening within 24 hours no channel in Pakistan sends out international field reporters to cover global events or news

In Last 10 years we have seen some good ground coverage of live events by reporters so our industry is growing but it takes $$$ to build a Media Giant like Al Jazira or CNN or BBC

Contrary to Pakistan , Indian reporters are spread all over different Global channels even if their is no global Indian channel but their minions are spread in all global news channels

  • That is why we see Pro Indian articles written in global news outlets

Funny thing is every side, be it right or left, be it Pakistan or India, Muslims or Atheists, Palestine Supporters or Israel Supporters, Nationalists or Liberals, Feminists or Non Feminists, they all, all blame the Media for being biased against them in some way or another.

That's how you know the Media has got it right.

Thing is, in America, there is a monopoly by these larger companies which is why it's hard to establish, they make it as painful and impractical as possible by lobbying, policies and what not, but not because of "Jews." But the market in smaller towns such as in Kansas, Texas, and so on are still open because the big companies refuse to establish there fully.

Normally when a new TV channel (With alternative) views comes to these existing markets , the players who already dominate the market , backed by Billions from Investors. They don't appreciate the new kids in town trying to change the Opinion of Population

They like to control the Media , Advertisement , What people buy , What they see , Who they love , Who they hate

Media is closely connected to National Interest Policy

  • CNN
  • BBC
  • RT

They all have their universal stories but they slip in their own views about topics inline with their Government's policy

They maintain narrative in 20-40 global languages , which requires army of translators and writers

Now we also have viral Networks , on web like Youtube and I was already seeing 'Modern age Indians explaining in videos , why India is innocent'

We say these things on forums but reality is there is zero appetite for english news chamnel in Pakistan. there used to be PTV World & Dawn and Now there is Indus Tv of Aap network bit look at its live stream 5-10 people watching.
Initially locals have to support the channel so that it can stand on its feet and later spread the network. alas we are not doing that. my two cents

and i agree with the poster above we need to have Aj+ type youtube channels, they can be more effective in todays world. 2-3 such channels in the footsteps of newsnow, visual politics, caspian report etc.
