We can reverse engineer some of our older jets that we are planning to retire, and study them and invest in producing completely indigenous fighters...

Indigenous is the way to go as it empowers a nation and does not make it in reliance to any other nation.

I think Pakistan should reverse engineer it's old fighters so that we can use the learned knowledge from these jets to produce indigenous jet-engines, wings, radars, etc.

And we can hopefully come up with indigenous planes and fighters for the future.

. .
Reverse engineer old cafts for wat?when we are already building a 4th gen fighter?Maybe reverse some tech knowhow(to improve or learn) from F-16 block 52.....for improvement on JF-17 Thunder?

If you reverse engineer a scape, you will get scrap only.

Try to reverse engineer new fighter like F-22 or F-35 etc not Mig 21.

Well i don't really find a reason why shouldn't we reserve engineer these old junkies........

I guess its not a bad idea to research about these ageing aircrafts - We are still far behind in aviation industry and its not a good idea to rely upon China only to first Research and develop for us and then share limited amount of transfer of technology so that we can absorb and re-produce.

I guess its not a bad idea we can allocate some money to research/study these french aircrafts espacially their engines. If somehow we can learn something useful from these old french aircrafts that would be very much beneficial to us. Remember French too evolved their technology after making this final piece of aircraft couple of decades ago. So why can't we follow the same line to make something better? I guess it would be easy for us to absorb transfer of technlogy from the chinese or other foreign countries if we ever planned to allocate a small budget in the R&D sector. Its like learn 25% from the french engines, take 50% from the chinese and reproduce a better engine to fullfil your demand by researching on the remaining 25%. I know it takes time but why not we reverse engineer these aircrafts espacially those parts where our technology is closer to Nill - remember SOMETHING is always better than NOTHING

My opinion only

copy a fighter is not easier than develop a new fighter, the only advantage is less risk since the sample is already work well. for example,in1980's china imported some "black eagle" helicopters from amercian and was very satisfactied with the performance of them. we tried to copy these beatyful babies of course. However, after carefully examined the helicopter, our experts declare: "the manufacture tech and advanced material used in the helicopter is way beyond our ability. even in 20 years we do not have the capability to re-engineer it."
thus, even after almost 30years you still can not see the copy of black eagle in PLAAF, although PLAAF is really like it, even in 2008 year sichuan earthquake,PLAAF still want to buy more from american for the reason of disaster relief

reverse engineering in its full form might be a bad idea but learning from it and trying to obsorb some technlogy in in our industry is what i am asking for. It should a great idea to open and see what the heck is inside this machine that lets you fly on the sky so fast  and carry lot of weight with number of unimagined features

I would like to make a new topic about how we should line our rivers with gold. I think the sedimentation will give us huge foriegn exchange.

it is not re-engineering can improve your industry, on the contrary, it is that your industry advance to a level to enable you to copy something. till now ,we can say our industry enable us to copy and improve black eagle, that called Z-15 (still not ready).

however , re-engineering can save your money and time of course, since you do not need to test , fail, and test again... re-engineering need less tests

I think it is a good idea for learning experience for the upcoming engineering students.

yeah not a bad idea but it should not be a waste of time and money its should be fruitful

Reverse Engineering is extremely expensive. Yes it has long term benefits but in short term its twice expensive. I am student of Prject Management and I know very well how expensive reverse engineering is.

Do u know USA still reverse engineer and recycle its used and old products. Progressed nations can do that coz they knows very well about how to manage, utlizae and get maximum benefits with minimum output.

Now keeping in mind what sort of people we have since 1947, who are managing and organizing country. Do u expect they have the capability to take these kinds of initiaitions.

Secondly, Can u find how many used material we recycle or reengineer? The Answer is very few only in private sector, but 0% on Gov level.

Now coming to AC.........we are moving in 4.5th and 5th generations AC.......these have entirely different technology, Air frame, platform , Engine , Radars and avionics compared to 4th or lesser generation AC's ....this kind of technolohy cant be integrated to any 4th or lesser generation AC's.

So my brother, in my view it looks little immature approach.
