Almost all the cellular companies in Pakistan are offering attractive late night call packages that are quite popular perhaps for the reason that they are easy on the pocket. One of the reasons of fame for such packages is that they help people in making nationwide calls and talk with relatives or friends for hours and hours easily. On the other hand cell phones nowadays have become fashion statement and symbol of independence for our youth that mobile phone helps them to develop their own language and social groups away from the snooping eyes of their parents. It is privacy and not mobility that matters.

The unpleasant effects of such packages were long ignored just to generate revenue for cellular companies and taxes for the government but finally someone raised voice against it. Members of the Punjab Assembly unanimously passed a resolution banning late night packages offered by mobile networks at cheap rates declaring them detrimental to the future of youth.

It is worth mentioning that off peak hour calls are always relatively cheaper but the late night packages are almost free. One can talk for an hour for just Rs3 to 7 at night while during the day the call charges are Rs1 to 3.5 avg per minute. Companies have marketed these packages with a bang. Some of the taglines are Jazz raat shru baat shru,Zem Infinite Craze, Djuice jagtay raho, Talk all night long etc.

Not all of them but youth has certainly availing the facility of late night call packages (which are in effect usually from 11pm at night to 7am in the morning) and spending sleepless nights which is affecting their studies and even in some cases they could not attend their colleges and schools in the morning. Probably Wasi Shah has written for them,

Sari raat ki jagi ankhain

College main kia parhti hon gi

The ban itself is a good decision but will it be the utter solution to help youth realize what their moral and social obligations are? The most contentious idea behind these packages is the timing but is blaming the telecom companies the right thing to do? After all it is business strategy to attract customers. Parents are equally responsible. They should keep eye on their children’s activities, what kind a friends they are making how they are progressing academically how they are spending time.

Now days the youth is much mature and have more exposure and more understanding of things. The responsibility falls over to children of how better they understand the life around them. Certain priorities must be set according to the age and these priorities should never be compromised. Staying up at nights and fight through long working days will definitely affect your health, education and professional life.

late night calls are for fruit cakes but banning late night calls infringes individual freedom, which is too much of a price to pay.

Also why is Adolf Hitler famous on this forum lol, i saw a dude with his avatar now people are quoting him.. i dont get it :what:

The people who advocate bans should be take themselves out of moral corruption first… almost 90% politicians are sleeping like 70% population, we must wakeup and stand on our rights against all wrong actions which they taking day by day...We need awake Pakistan in the morning

It has nothing to do with night package or cell phones. Basically, Pakistanis are more social as compare to other western countries. This why we see a new sms every min.

Government should seriously get a life, why the hell government want to increase inflation? where ever they see something is on the reach of the people of pakistan they make it expensive, electricity, sui gas, cng, petrol, sugar, wheat, sms etc were also once cheap but now, thanks to government, we are getting everything on higher prices.

Edit:
i dont get it tho, even with girlfriends you cant talk allll night .. come on whats wrong with u people :P

You have no idea, to whome you are talking ;) we are Pakistanis, & we can do anything :P

Not even the Late Night Packages but usage of Cellular Phones by people under 18 should also be banned.

The ruining of younger generation must be stopped and Laws are to be enforced for the betterment of our ownselves. The Mobile Phone Culture in Pakistan has played in recent years a very vital role to destroy our social, religious and traditional values. We must have a check and balance system on it.

It is the responsibility of Government to take actions to prevent social or traditional or even moral decline in society. (I delibrately left Religion). Now, we all know, including you I am sure, that Mobile Phone usage has done more harm than being a help. Young people, boys and girls, both are using it without any planning or proportion of usage. Devices like Mobile Phones that include stuff more than its basic requirement lead to harm.

Internet has much to be get benefit from but still more than 75% of total "clicks" and "enters" are on the sites which our society never welcomes, accepts or never can allow. We need policy-making even about internet. Its also ruining our generation.

Parents impose certain bans on their children knowing that they are immature and can't judge what good or bad for them, do they do wrong? What do you think bans on such sites in Iran, KSA, etc or Bans on certain sites in China are opposed???

We all agree that imporvement in usage of Mobile Phones is required and this can only be done by making laws. Govt. can't stop individuals but can stop those Service providers from offering such schemes.

This is impossible .. everything that you stated is not the responsibilty of the government,, but that of the parents and upbringing. The government should promote such competitions among phone providers or we will be left with PTV and NTM and PTCL landlines. Simpler times thats true, but because of all those restrictions we have been left 20 years behind the rest of the world.

Why so late? why companies are not giving the same packages at day time? If someone want to talk he/she can talk at day time. Aisi kaya baat ha jo raat ko hi honi hay. Its just spoiling the next generation.
