KARACHI: In a surprising development, Provincial Police Officer, Sindh, Muhammad Shoaib Suddle, was transferred by the Establishment Division, Islamabad, with immediate effect and posted as the Intelligence Bureau director general on Saturday.
Suddle had been given a two-year and three month extension in service and in a short span of time, he was able to get the ratio of street crimes in the province reduced.
Suddle had said that continuous extraneous influence and interference in police affairs in the past had made the Sindh Police an ineffective and unprofessional organisation.
The sources said Suddle had resisted transfers and postings of police officers and tried to end nepotism from the Sindh Police. They added that from the very first day, Suddle was facing political pressure on various departmental issues which he resisted.
About the transfer of Suddle, sources said this was for the first time in the history of the Sindh Police that a provincial police officer was transferred within two months and a few weeks of his posting.
When contacted, Sindh Chief Secretary Fazlur Rehman confirmed the transfer of Suddle and said the name of the next PPO would be considered on Monday (tomorrow).
Regarding the posting of the next PPO, several names are under consideration, including CCPO Karachi Sultan Salahuddin Babar Khattak, IG Tariq Pervez and former IG Sindh Azhar Ali Farooqi. The provincial government was said to be considering to post an officer from Sindh as the next PPO.
Sources said if Sultan Babar Khattak was posted as the PPO, the next CCPO could be DIG Wajid Ali Khan Durrani or DIG Tariq Jameel.
Shakeel Anjum adds from Islamabad: The PPP government has removed Dr Shoaib Suddle from the post of PPO, Sindh, and has appointed him as director general (DG) of the Intelligence Bureau (IB).
The notification of the appointment of Dr Suddle as the DG IB was issued on Saturday while through another notification issued by the Establishment Division at the same time, the DG IB, Tariq Lodhi, was demoted and appointed as Deputy DG IB, the sources said.
