The Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL) on Saturday launched the eighth Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) built for the Indian Coast Guard. This is is the eighth of the 20 Fast Patrol Vessels being built for the Coast Guard.
Arti Bhatnagar, joint director (maritime systems), Ministry of Defence launched the vessel.
CSL chairman and MD Cmde K Subramaniam, CSL finance director Ravikumar Roddam, CSL technical director Vinayakumar P and other senior CSL officials were present at the launching ceremony.
The launch of the vessel comes on the heels of the delivery of the fifth vessel, CGS Achook, which was handed over to the Coast Guard on Friday. The first reading of D 448 (Acceptance protocol of delivery of fifth FPV) was signed by CSL operations director R S Sundar and commanding officer designate ICGS Cdr Rahul Gautam of the Indian Coast Guard. DIG Vivek Vajpayee, principal director (Materials), Indian Coast Guard, and DIG T P Sadanandan, CGRPS (Kochi), were present on the occasion.
“The last six months have been an extremely busy period for the shipyard with seven deliveries,” said CSL authorities. “Maximum number of deliveries of ships gain significance in the wake of adverse market scenario wherein ship deliveries have been delayed at most of the yards in India and abroad,” they said.
