SIALKOT: The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) resorted to unprovoked and intensified mortar shelling on Thursday on villages along the Working Boundary.
The villages that came under fire were Charwah, Joyiaan, Harpal, Anula, Dhamaala, Bajra Garhi, Umeraanwali, Thathi Meendarwal, Rangor, Bhagiyaari and surroundings in Bajra Garhi, Harpal, Umeraanwali sectors.
According to Chenab Rangers, the Indian paramilitary forces after a two-day lull started heavy mortar shelling at 7pm which continued till late in night.
Several Indian shells landing in the fields did not explode. But many shells and bullets hit houses, causing damage to several structures.
The Chenab Rangers retaliated effectively, forcing the Indian guns to fall silent, officials said.
No casualty was reported.
The Rangers officials said that Indian border guards targeted the civilian population with small and big weapons besides firing heavy mortar shells in clear violation of the ceasefire accord.
