Days after Prime Minister Imran Khan requested overseas Pakistanis to contribute to dams fund, Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad on Monday asked them to send gifts for the upgradation of the trains.

Addressing a ceremony pertaining to inauguration of a Lahore-Faisalabad train, the minister urged Pakistani expats to send fog-safety equipment, which are used internationally to prevent accidents and delays during dense fog.

With the start of winter, fog starts rolling in almost across the country, affecting the visibility of signals which ultimately pushes the loco pilots to reduce the speed of the train at every signal and crossing.

Effort are being made to offer better facilities in the Pakistan Railways, he said, adding, “We cannot defeat India without improving the railways system.”

Highlighting the significance of the railways, he termed trains the backbone of the multi-billion dollars’ project, China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He vowed to expand the rail network all over the country.

He also called for giving promotion to all employees of this department, adding that no one will be relocated or transferred.

“We are working on WiFi and tracking facility,” he told media.

Today, the railways minister inaugurated train 119/Up-120/Down Faisalabad non-stop between Lahore and Faisalabad at Lahore Railway Station. It consists of air-conditioned and economy class wagons.

It will leave Lahore at 8am and reach Faisalabad in two hours at 10am. In the afternoon, the train will leave Faisalabad at 2:30pm and reach Lahore at 4:30pm.

The Economy class fare is 190 rupees, AC Standard 400 rupees and AC Parlour class fare is 500 rupees.

All these latest stories of tapping overseas Pakistanis for investment in homeland infrastructure is great.

But really, the true engine of growth will be the domestic economy and populace.

Unpe sab nirbhar hai.

Cheers, Doc

Donations aren’t investments. Putting this much pressure on the diaspora can permanently degrade or sever relationship between them and the mother country. Besides its not like diaspora pakistanis are a wealthy diaspora. Most of them are at or below the poverty line in the countries they immigrated to.

You keep believing that.

We are not poor, we are tax avoiders.

Each villa in Azad Kashmir belongs to someone who claims to be earning not enough to survive without state help in the UK.

Why do think oversees Pakistanis as remedy for every thing by assuming that they are sitting on fortunes of billions and trillions and they will solve our every problem in this manner that they will beat the financial institutions??

In his first press conference he announced that PR will shift on standard gauge, on question that in this case the PR will need new rolling stock/coaches/engines the minister announced the oversees Pakistanis will make pile of coaches/engines in PR, they have promised me. Who made this promise?

I agree it does seem to be a bit much to us sitting outside.

Bit that might also be because we are not privy to what he's kicking off on the ground locally.

Cheers, Doc

Are they serious? "affecting the visibility of signals which ultimately pushes the loco pilots to reduce the speed of the train at every signal and crossing."

With digital technology and wifi you don't need to see the signals, why don't they get educated techie guys into their design and development teams?

Pakistani diaspora seems to be the ATM of PTI

Har cheez ka jawaab overseas pakistanis ki wealth.? Instead of keeping an eye on the wealth of others, Sheikh Saab should focus on generating revenues from such a huge enterprise that he's been made minister of. I mean jab logon se hi paise mang k system chalana hai toh es mein aap ka kya kamaal. Khan should replace ministers who don't deliver. Sheikh Rasheed talks well, but we don't need talkers, rather Doers.
