What's new

Sheikh Hasina invited Imran Khan to Bangladesh, India is worried thinking of a new equation

India won't allow it to happen, Bangladesh is under too direct Indian control and influence to allow Bangladesh to be truly independent and Sheikh Hasina knows it. After having exacted revenge from Bangladeshis this crazed woman would no doubt turn her attention on Pakistan. Until there is political change and the Modi-Hassina relationship breaks Pakistan should proceed with caution.
I believe this lack astuteness of observations.

After reading a lot on South Asia's modern history, I can still believe that BAL, and co. were a telephone government during Rajiv, since Hasina's family were literally living with some of his relatives in a government flat in Pandara Park in ND. I can certainly feel she has some of that Indira's streak in her, she is trying to emulate her to some extend no doubt.

But since then a ton of time has passed. What's is also known from public record is that she always goes to Rajiv's grave in ND when she is there, and that she is very unhappy hew perception of "INC being back-stabbed," and that India "went astray" during nineties, with BJP being a part of that.

Her loyalty to ND is more or less personal loyalty to Nehru-Gandhi family, not India as a state. This is what I think.
those are already operated by the Burmese, BD will not buy them.
If anything is signed between the two, it will be economic.
Why not? Chengdu will be as happy to sell FC1s to BD as Norinco was eager to sell a superior kitted Pakistani standard MBT 2000s to BD with specific consideration of them being superior to Burmese MBT 2000s.

Russia was equally eager to auction superior variants of their tanks/jets to highest bidders on sides of the conflict, especially in Africa.

So far - for the last fifty years, Indian Govt. has been taking unfair trade advantages and selling all their products in Bangladesh, while Bangladesh exports to India are minimal. "Balanced trade" with India is a friggin' joke. That ship sailed long ago....

Current trade imbalance with India obviously cannot continue.

I believe Indian imports in Bangladesh are somewhere around $15~20 Billion annually (officially) - while we only export maybe $1 Billion to their market. For Indian market, that amount is a drop in the bucket. Ch*tia Banyas and their RSS friends obviously don't want Bangladesh to develop.

They have tried all kinds of nasty tricks (like "dumping" pretexts and Non-tariff barriers, i.e. NTBs) to block Bangladeshi exports to India.

They import all kinds of items from China, Indonesia and other Asian countries - then why'd they want to block imports from their closest "Mittroon" desh?

What kind of effed-up logic is this??

Bangladesh jumped four notches to become India’s fifth-largest export destination during 2020. The article below quotes inaccurate export data figures to Bangladesh but it does acknowledge how important the Bangladeshi market is to Indian exporters.

Since Indian exports to Bangladesh are so high, in any trade war, they are going to be the losers. We can certainly swap Chinese raw materials and manufactured goods for Indian goods and there won't be anyone shedding tears, missing Indian garbage in Bangladesh.

Indians are just banking on uneducated people in Bangladesh who won't stop consuming cheap Indian-made FMCG garbage. Even Garments makers in Bangladesh are slowly weaning themselves from India cotton. I think it was like 40% of cotton imports two/three years ago, now it's less than 20% or so.

To me - any Bangladeshi who shills for India or Indian products in PDF is either uninformed or a closet-India supporter i.e. false-flagger.
It is the responsibility of the GoB to protect its market. India cannot send a single kg of goods unless BD buys. We should blame the GoB and not India. India is protecting its market from being flooded with cheaper BD goods and the GoB is unable to do the same.

So, why should you blame India? Better, you ask Hasina Bibi to put a limited embargo on Indian goods for which it seems our people are crazy to buy. I hope, this will not cause street demonstrations in Dhaka.

Don't you see BD imports raw cotton as well as finished factory products from India? Cotton is different, but why BD is unable to industrialize itself to produce finished goods that can offset Indian imports?

Industrialization is slowly happening - @bluesky bhai. Bangladeshi FMCG market is already majority controlled by Bangladeshi brands, soon NE seven sisters market and WB/Bihar will also come under Bangladeshi brands. This is already happening.

No one is crazy about Indian product quality, they buy them because there is no similarly priced alternate options are available.

We cannot at all discount the fact that Indian Govt. arm-twists Bangladesh govt. to open up to Indian imports. We know this as an open secret. This HAS TO STOP.

When did you last buy ANY Indian product and say, "Boy - am I glad I bought Indian product!". I personally am lucky that I can afford better, many folks can't. However if we import Indonesian and Chinese products, they are light years better, but a touch more expensive. As Bangladeshi incomes improve, people here will stop using Indian garbage.

There will be no demonstrations, just like the Indian media/cable channels ban. How many people demonstrated in the streets? No one cares.

Hasina's govt. is filled with RAW agents who control the policies to import and consumption of Indian products, RAW also controls our media and academics as @Atlas bhai pointed out. Things are in motion already to identify and eliminate them (in any way possible). You will get good news soon. :-)

Am I right, or am I right @Atlas bhai?

things have changed since then.(Rohingya Crisis)
The goverment has made it an official policy to acquire western gear from now on. Also addressing the noise indians made when Chinese submarines were bought

US officials have confirmed that BD is negotiating to sign ACSA and GSMOIA
US wants 2 defence deals with Bangladesh | undefined (thedailystar.net)

Western equipment will give us an advantage over the burmese.
Armed forces do not want parity, they want superiority.

The Amricans have done us a great favour by introducing CATSAA

Future defence purchases will be based on three merits
1. Quality
2. Price
3. Strategic concerns

Oh Hasina no point in trying to revive SAARC.

When is the ideal weather to visit Chittagong?
Why would she? What's the point if India not playing the ball? The whole point of SAARC IMHO was to wrestle the "elephant in the room" — India back to the negotiating table with some economic candy by united effort of all other South Asian countries.

The tables have turned now 40 years later. Even tiny Nepal, and Butane come some times now push back on Indian demands. It's India now which is returning to transactional relationships after losing so much of influence, not the other way around.

Given this, I see no reason for BD to continue to give India exclusive diplomatic access to Dhaka for nothing in return.

Indian themselves are now moving from Russian gear, to American one big time now under Modi.

Can you translate the video for me?
New Delhi should take effective steps to stop border killings across the Bangladesh-India border. The long-pending Teesta issue must be resolved. Interference in the internal affairs of Bangladesh by some Indian political leaders must be stopped.

India should behave as an ‘all-weather ally” just as China does towards Pakistan. Otherwise, India might lose its most trustworthy and reliable friend in the world. India and Bangladesh had, have, and will have – hopefully – eternal strategic ties. Bangladesh needs India and vice versa. Indian leaders should take serious note of the recent meeting of the Pakistan envoy with the Bangladesh PM. A single negative incident between India and Bangladesh has the potential of changing the regional geopolitical scenario.

That Pathik guy totally nails it down.

Summary:
Gov will take steps to increase ''Geopolitical position' by increasing the purchase of weapons from USA, Turkey ,UK , Italy ,France etc (these countries were named)

Future defence purchases will be based on three merits
1. Quality
2. Price
3. Strategic concerns

Foreign minister says that BD will seriously look at defence co-op and purchases from US (in response to the US ambassador) if the conditions are met.

Journalist asks question about some ''countries showing concerns'' about new military purchases (Referring to Chinese sub deal). Ministers says that we will look at our own interests before anyone else's concerns.

A deal was signed with Turkey in june/july this year for the purchase of defence equipment.

some stats saying how 70% of BD equipment is sourced from PRC (that is about to change apparently)

When is the ideal weather to visit Chittagong?

Always Wintertime. November to February are good.

Can you translate the video for me?

Essentially what was discussed is that:

"Bangladesh wants to increase its military strength to strengthen its position in geopolitics. That's why the government is now planning to buy more weapons from Turkey and the United States after China-Russia. Foreign Secretary Masood bin Momen said weapons will be purchased from the West considering quality, price and strategic ties."

By the West, they primarily mean US but as evidenced with current relationship and agreements with Turkey, a very large amount will be from Turkey as well.

Selam sir! I guess you are the PM of Pakistan! Sir it's you who invited her first!

Since BD has not yet industrialized and is unable to produce goods that have demand in the country, therefore, it imports both from India and China these goods worth many billions of dollars.

In reality, these two countries are not exporting. It is BD that is importing to meet its domestic demands for 169 million people. So, why complain against India or China? It is invalid.

BD has failed to understand the importance of industrialization and it is BD's responsibility, not India's or China's.

Better ask the GoB to stop importing from India. The issue is resolved at that point. Let our people learn to live without consuming industrial goods.

There is no need to import from India though. What India can offer that China can't?

If we stop importing from India , it will be harmful for indian economy. So we can keep them at bay with business threat!

We will have other options too alongside China though, as I myself don't want to put all my eggs in one basket, doesn't matter who's basket it is!

Complaining against India is really invalid I agree ,but complaining against BAL is valid as it need to clean it's own house so that we can find better options than India.

It's already proven when India stopped exporting onion , we got them from other countries.

Yes for distance importing from India is slight cheaper , but if we can choose Myanmar ( considering as extension of China ) we can have everything in cheaper price.

Besides , we need to attract investors , so that they make manufacturing plants in Bangladesh and we can be beneficial from it.

Already 82% ( or maybe more ) smartphone are made in Bangladesh ( assembled actually) , so I think we can choose not importing from India.

Only some BAL a.s.s kisser still are responsible for importing form India.

So yes we must not blame India overtly , but will blame those fifth columns who are involved in importing from India.

BD has failed to understand the importance of industrialization and it is BD7s responsibility, not India's or China's.
No disagreement.

Partly agree. Yes we can ask govt to stop importing from India for sure.

But that doesn't mean that we shall have to live without consuming industrial goods.

If we stop importing form India , we will be using better industrial goods than Indian garbage!

All Bangladesh is need as top priority that is better healthcare, so that dependency on India finished.

And yes industrialization too in order to create more jobs, I agree from the beginning!

So, if you believe you have a valid point, better you ask Hasina Bibi to stop imports from India. India's total export is about US$ 323.251 billion of which $9.21 billion worth of goods go to Bangladesh. About 2.85% of Indian exports.

But can BD survive without imports from India? Even 2.57 million visitors from BD go to India for shopping and getting medical treatment. So, how do you plan to stop their visits and save at least $2.57 billion they spend yearly there in India.

Instead of blaming India, you should devise plans to industrialize the country and improve our medical facilities to Indian level. Probably, BD will have to invite hundreds of Indian doctors to do it.

So, where is the escape formula?

Now, watch the video below to understand why Bangladesh will never, never, never go after building industries and will keep on importing goods from India. Our politicians like to live until Qayamat and so they are not willing to sacrifice lives. Rather, they would sacrifice the welfare of BD population.
