BBC News - Hardtalk - Daughter's tribute to murdered politician Salmaan Taseer
What a well spoken, intelligent, down to earth girl. Makes me realize how big a loss her father Salman Taseer's death was for Pakistan, a consistent voice standing up for the oppressed. While he might have had some 'controversial attributes', many people forget to realize that Salman Taseer was also practicing the true spirit of Islam in many ways.
This is what the Quran says about the oppressed & the oppressors:
“Allah does not love the oppressors.”(Qur’an, 42:40)
As a Shia Pakistani American who's seen three of his family members (uncles) being killed by a few miscreants/extremists in the 90's, I have seen extreme love & prayers from my fellow Pakistanis. How can I forget their love? Today, when many Pakistani people are starting to doubt, I feel more optimistic than ever. It's very easy to forget the love of others, & feel bitter in difficult times. And yes, these are challenging times, but I know Pakistan is strong & will get past this. There are still more than enough good, courageous people left in Pakistan. Pakistan Zindabad
