Shahed-136 - Tracking usage & expanding understanding.

Until now, Ukraine has effectively paralyzed RuAF.Russia has badly failed in SEAD/DEAD ops.
Well, Russia has effectively occupied east of Ukraine and their missiles and drones reach their targets all over Ukraine. the era of releasing dumb bombs is over.

Well
Russians are constantly striked by HiMARS and other Artillery based weapons and now by Storm Shadows.
Imagine a complete air superiority by Russians. In that case, HiMARS & other Artillery would have no place to operate
The age of dumb bombs is not over. They significantly increase the fire power and that too cost effectively.
And bring massive destruction for enemy's civillian & Military infrastructure.
Did Russia used its air force for anything but air launched artillery
Russia lacks surveillance assets to continuously track the movement of Ukr defence systems.so RuAF has no choice but to stay out of UKR DS Range.
Lately there has been massive work on surveillance assets in our subcontinent and now I can understand why surveillance matters in battle field.

don't underestimate them they have awacs , they have satellites , the have all sort of radars , what they lack is modern warfare mentality they are stuck in 60s and 70s

I think its wrong to compare costs in US dollars between two weapons since it can be deceitful. You wonder why? Well in the event of some major war between the two forces one has to account for how many man or labour hours was spent in making these weapons. Starting from basic ore extraction to assembly process of these weapons. Less developed countries can still struggle deploying cheap suicide drones if their workforce is on the level of pick axe and shovel industrial level. In such cases workload is greater and thus more man hours are needed even for the most cheap weapons to be made in greater number.

Smart production management such as employing 3d printers, robots etc. can reduce cost and time for even complex weapons systems shaving off many man hours.
People are forgetting the that US president can turn entire country into the most communistic hub world has ever seen where workforce will be engaged and forced into making any types of weapons US needs.

Its not all about the brute force but carefull planning and managment of resources and deploying when needed and if needed.

Not that realistic IMO. Patriot radar is easy target for Kh-31PD. Shahed primary target is warehouses and towed artillery pieces. Warehouses storing ammo, fuel, vehicles are valuable targets. Shahed + Kh-31PD make a good combo like B-17 + P-51 in WW2.

No that’s not true. KH-31 or any anti radiation seeker is vulnerable to an enemy with sufficient ELINT and space based assets. When enemy air assets go air borne, AWACs and other SIGNIT aircraft plus space based assets detect then send information to radar crew to turn off radars and “scoot”. Thus the crew ceases radiation and changes position. If missile goes to old location or loses its signal it misses. It’s like IR seekers when enemies deploy flares or thermally similar diversions.

Thus you need another targeting measure to ensure destruction of battery or its targeting radar. This can be a drone flying overhead, EO/IO algorithm visual guidance, space based assets to monitor real time movement, etc.

It’s a much more complex cat and mouse game. Right now it’s Russia military brass against NATO military brass. NATO has superior tech due to industrial production and military spending advantage of the military bloc.

Currently, only China could stand toe to toe with NATO in terms of capability and equipment. They still lag and are rapidly catching up. CHINA spending $250B USD a year need to take PPP into account. So it’s real budget effect is much greater than simply converter yuan to dollars.

That’s like converting Iranian military budget to dollars and drawing direct comparisons. PPP matters.

:enjoy:

This was the one I really like tho`,after the russian soldier has enjoyed his tasty iranian supplied fizzy beverage of choice....

......he can then use the empty beverage container as a drone delivered munitions canister.
Now thats what I call SMART recycling. :azn:
A couple of pics showing how these empty iranian beverage containers are up-cycled into drone deployed munitions.

We can then see the finished product below...

Some more interesting info on this:
"I had never looked at a Sprite can as a weapon.According to my calculations, these cans have the capacity to carry shrapnel of 1000 6mm tungsten (2.2kg) or lead (1.35kg) bullets, and they also have the capacity to carry 150g of explosives.A small funnel can also be placed in front of a few grams of explosives." (translated)
"Let's go inside! Therefore, if it hits the ground from a quadcopter (assuming it exists) and even in a suicide way and connected to the aircraft, it will be like the explosion of a 57mm cannonball! This will shred you and your allies with 1000 tungsten shards. So let's take Pepsi, Coke and Sprite cans seriously."(translated)

Just as the German 150 mm / British 152 mm / French 155 mm revolutionized artillery warfare in WW1, Shahed revolutionized artillery warfare in the current war.
