Sri Lanka is a country where members of paliament run bared bodied to South Indian temples to be blessed on how to govern the country.. When former and current leaders govern the country based on superstitions, When the former president famously called for elections two years early based on advise of con man soothsayer.. What do you expect from a guy that barely had an education like Chandimal ? The country will remain third world shit hole till it's people evolve in to more intelligent beings, Which is unlikely

What an embarrassment

PAKISTAN V SRI LANKA TESTS
Series victory down to witchcraft: Chandimal

Countless cricketers have searched for a magic solution, but Sri Lanka's Test captain believe he's found one

Forget runs and wickets, Sri Lanka's surprise Test series sweep against Pakistan this month was down to witchcraft, captain Dinesh Chandimal has suggested.

Chandimal told reporters on Tuesday he had received a special blessing from a 'meyni', or sorcerer, ahead of the two-match series in the United Arab Emirates.

"I am always ready to accept the blessings of anyone - whether it is a meyni or any clergy," Chandimal told reporters after returning to Colombo.

"You can have talent, but without this blessing you can't move forward."

Jubilant Sri Lanka notch rare UAE series

His comments came a week after Sri Lanka's sports minister denied ordering the struggling national team to use witchcraft ahead of the Test series.

Dayasiri Jayasekara threatened to sue a sorcerer for claiming that, at his request, she cast a spell over Pakistan to ensure Sri Lanka's victory.

Several Sri Lankan politicians, business leaders and sports stars put their faith in witchcraft or astrology.

Former president Mahinda Rajapakse took the advice of his personal astrologer before calling an election two years ahead of schedule in January 2015, only to lose badly.

Chandimal said the sorcerer he consulted was the mother of a friend, and he was willing to accept her blessings.

But since the Test victory, Sri Lanka have fared less well.

They lost 5-0 in the subsequent one-day international series against Pakistan and also went down in a three-match Twenty20 series.

Sri Lankan fans made fun of Chandimal and criticised his sorcerer online, with many calling her a fraud.

"You made predictions, tied talismans, held poojas, but finally we were humiliated," posted one social media user.

To be honest, I would never mess with witches or the occult.

There's a lot of dark stuff in this world you don't want bringing home.

Cheers, Doc

what the faaacckkkk??? you cannot be serious...you are one of the most educated and rational persons posting on this forum...tell me puhleez you are joking

@Gibbs First we have to strike at the root...South Asian countries of the Hindu-Buddhist variety (leaving Muslims out in the first few rounds to avoid extra complication) have to strike at the root...at the root of everything is I guess a deep belief in astrology, pre-destination, fate, destiny......BJP controlled Universities claim that astrology is a science and offer BSc courses in astrology...we have to burn the edifice of astrology down...then we can go after claims of yogic supernormal power...and then black magic and witch craft...This is what I am gonna do mid fifties onwards after I build up my war chest...it is most probably a futile,Faustian quest...but still worth doing..and there is threat of acid attacks and violence from magic-believing Hindu gandoos...but ohh well...it would still be a life well lived

I've seen some bad sh.it go down in my immediate family.

You are free to believe me or not.

But this stuff works. And works bad.

Being good helps. But sometimes is simply not enough.

I would've very wary of black stuff. And anything out of the ordinary is seldom if ever a coincidence.

There are some really bad people in this world. Who mean you harm.

You need to protect yourself. And accepting that there is sh.it out there that's beyond your scientific domain of comprehension is the first step.

Cheers, Doc

Ohh Well......I have been in the trenches...was a celibate (not even hasthmaithuna LoLz) monk (novice) in training for a long time ...Anyways I appreciate your Intellectual Honesty..I frankly admire that...it takes a certain level of courage to say everything one has experienced without putting any sort of filters on

We need some anti-superstition laws like China in order to modernize.
Believing in Astrology didn't save Rajapaksa or Premadasa, Rajapaksa tried to get a 3rd term putting elections on a lucky period and went home losing 2 years left of his term and Premadasa left office in pieces .

And there are idiots that venerate such egoistic megalomaniacs to this day, Including a couple of morons in this very forum

You have to accept the fact that Sinhalese people are superstitious and so are their leaders. AFAIK every Sri Lankan president has chosen a day which would be astrologically lucky for him in an election. Traditions of such cannot be changed just as quickly. It will take few decades to at-least subside. However, the 2015 election was not exclusively held on the words of the soothsayer. It was decided on many factors apparently.
