Lazar II armored vehicle
Serbia sells first 12 Lazar II multi-purpose armored vehicle for an unnamed customer, that reported by defence-blog.com.

The Lazar II is a multi-role military vehicle produced by the Serbian defence industry company Yugoimport SDPR. The vehicle is a merging of most important features of MRAV (Multi Role Armored Vehicle), and MRAP (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicle) armored vehicle concepts, featuring with very high all-terrain/all climate conditions mobility, high fire power, high all-round ballistic protection, high AT mines/IED protection as well as possibility of battlefield observation and target engagement by embarked crew personal weapons.

Lazar2 is up to three times cheaper than its counterpart from Finland, Patria, and its advantages in price and equipment. Core to the vehicle’s drive system are the driveline, axles, steering system and transfer case, all designed by Timoney. Timoney’s modular architecture, enabling quick and effective proving of systems, has facilitated the Yugoimport vehicle’s mobility system.

Yugoimports, the Serbian armoured vehicle company, has selected Tyron Runflats to supply all terrain, multipart rubber runflats for its latest 8 x 8 AFV, the Lazar.

Under the terms of the contract Tyron is providing complete runflat assemblies for the first 12 vehicles being produced for an unnamed customer.

The hull is designed to provide comfortable space to 2+10 crew with personal equipment and weapons. The space is designed in accordance with MIL-STD 1472.

Armored body of Lazar 2 presents modular construction, with possibilities of different level of protection, according to the needs of the user. Basic level of armored protection, without add-on armor corresponds to level III+ (12.7×99mm at 30m) at the front side of the vehicle, and level III (7.62×54mmR at 30m) on all other sides in accordance to NATO STANAG.

The first prototype was publicly presented on 2013’s Partner – International Fair of Defense Systems and Equipment. It is produced by Yugoimport SDPR in the new “Complex Battle System” factory in Velika Plana, Serbia.

Prototipe of Lazar 2 was tested by Serbian Gendarmerie, and according to last credible information 7 vehicles are on order for them. Lazar 2 should also enter Serbian Army Technical Test Center in this year. And there is also possibility that special police unit SAJ will get some also. So from these 12 most of them will end up in police units, and one or two in Serbian army test center. This Lazar 2 is in some things different than the first prototype. Grilles above the engine in the front, and from the side, are now better protected, fuel tank entrance is now better positioned, cameras positioning is different, instead of Axletech independent suspension Lazar is now using Timoney independent suspension....

Here they are, delivered to the Gendarmerie:

18 BOV M11/M15, plus Lazar 2(first prototype), and Lazar 3 (new version). Gendarmerie will get 6 more, and army will also get 6 in this year. Price of Lazar 3 for Serbian Army and police is 750 000 euros, that is of course production price without profit for the manufacturer. Lazar 3 for the army will be amphibious and with heavier armaments. Price in this configuration will probably be higher.
