Sopore, Dec 16: Reacting to the statement of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah that separatists should compete the mainstream politically, Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Friday blamed the Omar-led government of reacting violently to peaceful protests and killing hundreds of youth.
“On one hand they (Government) talk of political battle, but on other they act militarily on the ground. They impose curbs on our movement and programs without any justification. During 2008, 2009 and 2010, youth came out peacefully on the roads for demanding their birthright, but forces responded them violently.
They were not militants but unarmed teenagers and minors,” Mirwaiz said addressing people in this north Kashmir town after Friday prayers.
Mirwaiz said Government of India should start reduction of forces in Jammu and Kashmir to build conducive atmosphere for the resolution of Kashmir issue.
“The forces that are deployed in lakhs here should be withdrawn from our localities, towns and cities as they are biggest hurdle in peace as well as resolution of Kashmir issue. Kashmir cannot be resolved until forces are withdrawn, draconian laws are repealed and detainees are released from the jails,” Mirwaiz said, adding, “New Delhi cannot crush just struggle of Kashmiris with its military might.”
“We want to tell them (New Delhi) again that they cannot suppress us by violence or by imprisoning us in the jails,” he added.
Mirwaiz said Kashmir issue can be resolved only through two options, either through United Nations Resolutions or through tripartite talks between India, Pakistan and representatives of Kashmir.
“The issue should be resolved in sync with the sentiments and aspirations of Kashmiris. It cannot be resolved within the framework of Indian Constitution,” he said, adding that Kashmiris have rejected the agreements of 1947 and 1975 as they don’t match with their sentiments.

Mirwaiz asked Pakistan not to prioritize other issues like water, trade and Most Favored Nation with India.
Mirwaiz said due to countless sacrifices rendered by Kashmiris for the past two decades, international community is stressing on the resolution of the dispute.
“Whenever we meet leaders of European Union, America, Britain and Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) we don’t have to repeat the story of 1931 or 1947 or 1990. They are well aware about the Kashmir issue and are stressing upon India to resolve Kashmir issue,” he said.
Mirwaiz added that their struggle from 1931 is not for power, perks or privileges, ‘but for the freedom of Kashmir.’
“Our three generations have given blood for the movement and this movement belongs to every Kashmiri. The blood of martyrs will not go waste and we will safeguard their sacrifices,” he added.
Mirwaiz added that New Delhi is giving an impression of being one of the mightiest economic and military power in the world to scare Kashmiris, but said “powerful dictators fled because of the revolutions of the people in Arab world.”
Mirwaiz also said unity among the pro-freedom camp was in the interest of Kashmiris.
He also called for setting up of Bait-ul-Maal (welfare fund) in every nook and corner of the Valley to help the needy and curb apostasy.
“Due to increasing economic disparity, a large chunk of our society is being pushed into the lap of poverty. This section becomes easy target and prone to unethical activities. We cannot remain a spectator towards their miseries as other vested interest groups are taking undue advantage of their plight. It is our moral, social and religious duty to assist them so that they don’t fall in wrong hands,” Mirwaiz said.

Shopkeepers are expected to comply with strike calls in Indian-administered Kashmir

A shopkeeper in Indian-administered Kashmir, who was beaten by protesters for refusing to shut his store this month, has died, his family says.

Tariq Salam Bhat, 26, was surrounded by about 60 youths near Srinagar on 3 December and struck with a cricket bat, a day after he defied the protesters.

He was admitted to hospital where he died on Wednesday.

Anti-India sentiments are high in the Muslim-majority Kashmir Valley and protests are common in Srinagar.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condemned the attack as he addressed a party convention in Doda.

"If you want to fight, you should fight politically and not by means of hooliganism, high-handedness and muscle power," he told protesters.

"A peaceful and youthful person of Nowhatta is the latest victim of your outlook."
Shopkeepers' strike

Small businesses are expected to comply with the demands of separatist groups to shut down during any strike action.

On 2 December, police had fired tear-gas shells at demonstrators in the old city, leaving many of them injured, the BBC's Riyaz Masroor reports from Srinagar.

Some of the protesters, who had tried to force the shutdown, returned the next day to Mr Bhat's shop.

A scuffle broke out and the shopkeeper was hit around the head with a cricket bat, our correspondent says.

Shopkeepers in the old city have called their own strike to protest against Mr Bhat's death.

The Kashmir Valley has been in the grip of a violent insurgency against Indian rule for two decades, although violence has declined in recent years.

Kashmir is divided into Pakistani- and Indian-administered areas, with both nations claiming the region in its entirety.

Kashmir now is almost an afterthought.. The Pakistani TOMA now revolves around the backyard (Afghanistan that is ).. I dont know if it was planned this way by Indian strategists, but by design or by accidents, India's moves in Afghanistan have relieved a lot of pressure off Kashmir

what about being killed by the hands of Indian forces on daily basis

collateral damage due to actions of Pakistan backed terrorists.. Unfortunate but true, whether in Kashmir, Balochistan, Afghanistan and anywhere else in the world..

:blah::blah::blah:
So what's new? This is the gazillionth time this crap has been uttered - 'UN resolutions and aspirations of the people of Kashmir!' Jeeez!

If there's something new, then it's worth a read. Heading for the beer bar instead, before I get sick of this hot air emanating from the behinds of these bozos who have otherwise nothing else to do.

And ask this guy and others in the Hurriyat like SAS Gilani as to why they are using security cover of Indian security forces? Don't they trust their own folk in the Hurriyat to provide it? Are they sh!t scared of the kashmiris that they claim to represent? Absolute hypocrisy!
