Senior cop frees PTI activist from lock-up
CHARSADDA: A senior police official freed a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf activist who was stated to be a proclaimed offender and escorted him from Shabqadar lockup in a police van, sources said.
According to the sources, the Shabqadar police raided a soft drinks factory where an activist of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Shoaib Khan alias Adalat Khan scuffled with the cops. The police arrested the PTI activist for creating hurdle for the police in maintaining law and order and sent him to the Shabqadar police lockup.
The police claimed that they later found that the accused was wanted for criminal activities and several cases were registered against him. However, the PTI activists led by Member Provincial Assembly Arif Muhammadzai started holding protest for the release of the accused.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) K K Afridi and Station House Officer refused to accept the demand of the protesters, arging that the court would decide the fate of the accused. However, DSP Headquarters Salim Riaz Khan reached the police station and not only freed the accused but also escorted him in the official van from the lockup.
