ISLAMABAD: Hours after an interview appeared wherein Federal Minister for Climate Change Mushahidullah Khan had claimed that some high ranking officers had tried to stage a coup at the height of last year’s protests in Islamabad, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif refuted all such notions and directed the minister to submit an explanation for his comments.

According to a spokesperson for the government, Nawaz denied Mushahidullah’s claims of a tape, bearing recordings of high ranking officers detailing their plot, adding that no such tape ever existed.

According to the statement issued from PM House, the premier has instead sought an explanation from the federal cabinet member over his statement.

The story about any tape recording as being discussed in media is totally baseless, unfounded & farthest from truth-1/2
....Such rumours are irresponsible, and unprofessional-2/2

“PM does not have any knowledge about any such tape, ” the spokesperson added.

Later, the army’s spokesperson too termed any reports about a “tape” as baseless rumours.

Mushahidullah had claimed in an interview to the BBC that former Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) chief had hatched a conspiracy to oust both, Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif and the prime minister, at the height of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) 120-day long protest in Islamabad.

The minister had claimed that the recording, by a top civil intelligence agency, had helped foil that plan. This recording, Mushahidullah claimed, had been presented to the premier, who had subsequently passed it on to the army chief.

Seems like a political move to effect the haripur election. The sentence 'afra tafri machana chahtay Imran' is the Money maker here which can deter voters especially undecided on the brink voters who may see imran as an instigator of voilence , puppet and thristy for power.

The timings of release make it a political move to under pressure. Ofcourse pm and every N league member will say no such things happened nor such a tape exists but a simple side way statement will echo....

How effective this political move was will be revealed when the results of NA19 come forward.. May turn out to be a good move for N ..

However this is mere speculations and the truth could also very well be that its just a simple statement with a coincidental release before elections of an interview taken a week before.

Good. Precisely what a Civilian government should do. Always protect its military and its honor. This is called "political support". Even if a government official makes a wrong statement about the military's conduct, the Civilian Premier should shield the military and address it by jumping in or putting in people like interior minister in between. Even if the matter's true, it would get addressed (like it did in this case), between the PM and the Army Chief.

Another good example of a working and running system

I have a question for you. How on this EARTH can this situation cause ANY good or bad to an election???? There was an incident that the PM dealt with the Army Chief. One of the government's official spoke about it. The chain of command goes through the PM, he'll address this with the Minister and will make sure the Minister either apologizes, clarified or resigns. That's it. Its business as usual. There is nothing SO important or "strategic" about it. In fact, its not even an "event". Someone made wrong statement or a statement they shouldn't have made, their boss is going to address it. Matter closed! No impact to anyone's election, fever, dinner or lunch.

I would have been damn funny if Sharif's govt collapsed second time with a general handpicked by himself....

Would have been even more hilarious if this General would have gone on and hanged him.

.
he should be asked to tender his resignation. What an idiot. Dharna is finished,PMLN got the win yet idiots like these will bring PMLN's downfall

In a normal democratic system, these kind of issues when they surface, have three different outcomes. The PM (as the Army Chief and the Minister's boss), has asked him to clarify why he made these statements that he, as an government figure should refrain from making. These types of statements hurt a country and its Amry's image.

First resolution: The guy can "insist" on being right and not apologize, and that would result in his resignation of flat out replacement (fired from job).

Or Two: he'll submit an apology, will clarify the statement's true context if there was more to it; or Three: he'll issue a "restatement" outlining he made a mistake, and this might have already happened in private and they decide to accept apology in terms of he'll never speak on this topic again, and that its in the best national interest not to further drag it in the media.

Wont work here. He's openly accusing the Army of trying to stage a coup and damaging a national institution at the same time and the idiot is a minister.
PMLN's stupidity knows no bound. The Kasur incident, MQM drama wasnt enough for them, they just added more fuel to the fire.

:omghaha:

Shaba cheetay, shaba!

Keep it up!

And what about when the PM's own brother was making such claims? Alongside the very man who rejected such claims today, Pervez Rashid? So the INformation minister went from "We had tapes and proof" to "No such tapes existed" in two weeks? Or maybe Khwaja Asif? Or maybe even Saad Rafiq?

The only person in the government who two weeks back wasn't making such claims or commenting on the matter was Ishaq Dar. No one else.

This government will go down on it's own wrong doing, no one else has to do anything.

The fiasco with the MQM resignations, and now this whole case.

Agay agay dekhna hota hai kia.

You are outlining THREE issues here. Which one would you like to discuss? The PM's brother one, or the Information Minister one or the Proofs one? I have written EXTENSIVELY about this issue ALL the way to last year, the day after it took place. Its all on this site. Care to research?

The issue is real. But it was addressed between NS and the Army Chief and others were told to eff off (Shuja and Zaheer, and company). So why surface a buried issue? I am SURE a lot of people would've talked about it including PM's brother.....but life has moved on and it has become part of the "DARK" past that IK was trying to bring to life permanently. A DARKER version of Pakistan that is.

But today, as it stands, Pakistan just around hitting $ 20 billion in savings account. This is something to celebrate and be proud of. This political drama from last year is history, just like IK"s sit-in and dance party of 2014!!!

This government will go down on it's own wrong doing, no one else has to do anything.

You'd THINK so right!!! Well, you may want to sit outside with IK on stadium seats and watch the game till 2018. By 2018, Pakistan will have over $ 45 Billion in her foreign reserves (NEVER happened ever in Pakistan's history). So I could ONLY imagine the work being done, will be considered a job well done if you take a look around the list of projects taking place in Pakistan AND savings account growing!!

In 2018, when the game finishes up (current government finishes up their term), then they'll ask for "viewers comments" and your IK can provide your views then. Till then..... :nono:
