Obama's interest is to make history as the first "black" President. He wants to be seen as successful to the American public. He will begin from day one to worry about his re-election. His Democratic Party does have a small faction that supports Palestinian rights but they have been pushed aside by the centrists and pro-Israeli factions of his Party. Therefore, he will pursue ME (Middle Eastern) policies that may appear (cosmetically) to be different but will, in fact, be the same as all Presidents since Jimmy Carter. Jimmy Carter was the only US President since the creation of Israel that genuinely cared about the plight of Palestinians. And note, ironically, that the Iranians, who so very, very much support the Palestinians, caused Carter to lose his re-election. A key test of Obama will be if he does anything to challenge Israeli settlement activity in the West Bank. Don't hold your breath!
