SRINAGAR: A massive search operation is going on in the jungles of remote Lolab area of frontier district Kupwara in north Kashmir to nab the militants. The operation was started on October 12.
Sources told Kashmir Dispatch that on 12 October, the Special Operation Group (SOG) of police and army’s 18, 47, and 31 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) units had cordoned and started a massive search operation in Devar, Lolab, Tekipora, Durasa areas of Kupwara district, after, the sources added, “the SOG and army had received information about the presence of a large group of around 10-15 militants of Jaish-e-Mohammad and Lashkar-e-Toiba in the deep woods of Lolab.”
A day after government forces killed a Jaish militant, the searches were intensified.
“More troops were rushed to the forest area after the security forces got foot prints of more militants whom they have encircled in the forest during the operation,” a source said. The army and police were joined by 9 Para-commandos, sources said.
Other sources claimed that 6 to 7 militants broke the cordon and gave slip to police and army. But, army officials denied the claim.
These militants are believed to have infiltrated into these forests this summer through Keran and Machil sector, an army official said.
