LAHORE - Scottish Minister for External Affairs and International Development Humza Yousaf has called on Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif. Matters of mutual interest and promotion of bilateral relations were discussed during the meeting. Scotland government has expressed interest in the promotion of cooperation in education and energy sector especially small hydle power projects in Punjab.
Talking on the occasion, Shahbaz Sharif said that Pakistan is facing acute shortage of energy and government is taking emergent steps for overcoming energy crisis. He said that work is continuing on Dasu and Bhasha Dams and planning has been made for generating energy through coal. Shahbaz Sharif said that a strategy has been evolved for importing LNG for meeting the shortage of gas. The Chief Minister said a decision has been taken to hold road-show for energy sector in Britain in the beginning of November and the cooperation of British government for road-show is commendable. Extending invitation to Scottish delegation for participation in energy road show to be held in London, the Chief Minister said that there is a great potential of small hydle dams in Punjab and we welcome the interest of Scotland in construction of small hydle dams.
Shahbaz Sharif said that trends of extremism can be eliminated only through promotion of education.
Scottish Minister Humza Yousaf said that Scotland has special expertise in energy sector particularly small hydle power projects. He expressed willingness to promote cooperation with Punjab in energy and education sector. He said that on the invitation of the Chief Minister Punjab, Scottish delegation will participate in energy-road show to be held in London.
Meanwhile, ambassador of Turkey in Pakistan S Babur G Girgin called on Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif here on Saturday. Head of Corporation & Coordination Council of Turkey Dr Sirdar Cam, Member Board of Directors of Red Crescent of Turkey Kamil Kolabash, Provincial Health Minister Khalil Tahir Sindhu, and other concerned officers were also present on the occasion. Turkish delegation offered cooperation in housing sector and promotion of technical education in Punjab during the meeting.
Welcoming the offer of cooperation in housing sector and promotion of technical education, Shahbaz Sharif expressed the hope that during the tenure of new Ambassador of Turkey, ties between Pakistan and Turkey will further strengthen. The CM said Turkish people have given new dimension to its relations with Pakistan during the last five years. He said that the great cooperation of Turkey for the assistance of flood affectees is a shining example of excellent friendship between both the countries. He said that there is no dearth of manpower in Pakistan and 60 percent population of the country consists of youth aging 15 to 30 years. He said that Punjab government wants to benefit from the experience and expertise of Turkey for the promotion of technical education.
He said that Turkey has made tremendous development through the promotion of technical education. Shahbaz Sharif said that Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has been greatly impressed with the low-cost housing projects during his recent visit to Turkey and expressed his desire that such housing schemes should also be launched in Pakistan.
He said that we welcome cooperation of Turkey with regard to making low-cost housing schemes. Shahbaz Sharif said that fully activation of concerned departments for relief activities during accidents and incidents is of vital importance.
Ambassador of Turkey S. Babur G. Girgin said he will play his due role for further strengthening Pak-Turk relations. He assured that further investment will be brought from Turkey to Pakistan. He said that Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Pakistani people are our friends and brothers and assured that Turkish government and people will continue to play their role for the development and prosperity of Pakistan shoulder to shoulder with their Pakistani brethren.
