Scores of people sustained injuries when police resorted to disperse protesting teachers in Peshawar on Thursday.

As per details, two police personnel and four teachers were injured due to the tear gas shelling by the law enforcers near Assembly Chowk. The protesters also 'retaliated' by throwing stones at the police.

Despite the intense shelling and baton-charge, the police failed to disperse the protesters as the teachers stood their ground against the onslaught. The injured were rushed to a local hospital.

The protesters alleged that the police have arrested some teachers who were getting medical care in the hospital.

Earlier, the Primary Teachers Association staged a protest against lowering the pension in the name of reforms. They called for a change in the current service structure of primary teachers and the promotion of headmasters to Grade 16 and 17.

Due to the protest, GT Road remained blocked for many hours resulting in massive gridlocks in the surrounding areas.

Marriyum Aurangzeb condemns brutal torture on teachers in KP

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb on Thursday said the assault and pelting of stones on the teachers by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police in Peshawar were "condemnable and shameful".

"Imran Khan, who seeks Haqeeqi Azadi under the guise of a so-called conspiracy, is stoning the teachers in KP for demanding salaries," she said in a news statement.

The teachers were bemoaning Imran Khan’ economic revolution, which had been imposed on the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for the last eight years, she added.

Marriyum said the teachers held the Haqeeqi Azadi (real freedom) march at the Peshawar Assembly Chowk to get rid of Imran Khan’s "fascism and tyranny". The payment of salaries and pensions to the working and retired government employees in KP had been stopped on the orders of Imran Khan, she claimed.

"A liar and conspirator" Imran Khan intended to descend on the Federal Capital, but did not want peaceful teachers to exercise their right to protest, she regretted.

it's sad that we even need to bring those things up as example. if only justice had been done

Its sad bcz in our, flawed, understanding of democracy; the democracy begins at the start of the election campaign and ends with "incoronation". Pakistan mein jamhuryat isi ko kehte hain. If people have to come on the streets for every little things, then something is wrong.

Teachers Association is the biggest cancer plaguing Pakistan's education system every other month these leeches demand a hike in salary when they get paid even for days off and were fully paid during Corona even when there were no online classes it time people grab these looters and beat them up themselves.

An average teacher gets paid 25k to 40k rupees a month for teaching jack all from classes 1 to 10 it increases further yet they dare to demand more.

Please for the love of God disband such associations starting with Lawyers and teachers the biggest leeches you will see in Pakistan next to corrupt politicians and sugar mill/factory owners.

whose responsibility is it to hire good teachers or to train them or to hold them accountable? answer: the govt's. also, no harm in demanding higher salary, if glorified clerks sitting in secretariats are getting paid handsomely, then so should the teachers. if pension is to be reduced then begin by ending pensions of CSS, provincial CSP, army and judiciary officers.

You want good people to become teachers, but dont want to pay them enough. that is sad.

The barbed wire on the poles on the divider, is it quite common?

It takes a lot for teachers to come out and protest, let alone take injuries. Must be something utterly unbearable
