BEIJING, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- Explosions expert Zheng Zhemin and radar engineer Wang Xiaomo won China's top science award on Friday.

They were honored for their remarkable contributions to scientific and technological innovation, according to a statement posted on the Chinese government website.

An awarding ceremony is held on Friday morning in Beijing. Chinese leaders Hu Jintao, Xi Jinping, Wen Jiabao, Li Keqiang and Liu Yunshan attended the ceremony.

China has given the annual award to elite scientists and researchers for 13 consecutive years since 2000.

Zheng, 88, is member of both the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE).

Zheng has devoted himself to research including elastic mechanics, explosion processing and underground nuclear explosions.

Wang, 74, is a CAE member who has been engaged in the research and design of radar for the past 30 years. He is regarded as "father" of airborne warning and control systems in China.

A new generation of AWACS to emerge soon according to Wang。

“Influence - A Dialogue with 2012 State Supreme Science & Technology Award Winner” will be aired on CCTV 10 tonight at 9.15pm。

thats shows the chinese concern towards awacs development.

PLAAF is most likely patiently waiting for C919 to go mass production so they can use it as AEW&C and SIGINT platform.

.
Any estimate as to the time when the next generation of KJ-200 is officially unveiled?

What about an upgrade of KJ-2000?Awaiting Y-20 or the military version of the C919?

C919 would be more suitable platform for such aircraft, but if they don't have anything better perhaps they could use Y-20. There is no doubt that we are going to see AEW&C variant of the C919 (if that project stays on schedule) before 2020.

Here is one reason why transports are not that good AEW&C platforms.
Some see the Y-20 as the start of a family of special-purpose variants, including an all-domestic airborne early warning and control aircraft, but a large military transport - relatively heavy and draggy - is not really an optimized platform for AEW. The Soviets used the Il-76 because it was the best they had.

China is actively engaged in the developments of digital phased array radar(DAR)technology, common-type antenna technology, MIMO radar technology and intelligent direction sensing radar technology. China has been active in phased array radar technology, SAR / GMTI technology, dual-band early warning radar technology, combined guidance technology, turbulence / wind shear detection technology, focusing on five categories of technology research; carry out stealth antenna, synthetic aperture imaging, comprehensive anti-interference, missile-borne guide first-class professional key technology research; airborne display, follow the international advanced aircraft cockpit display technology, to carry out the research of key technologies research around the cockpit integration of large-screen display, the focus on extra degree show backup technology, large The screen liquid crystal the seamless display technology, high reliability touch screen technology

Massive and growing economy. Pumping vast amounts into R&D. Building and educating a new generation of scientists and engineers.
This is just the tip of the iceberg to come.

We will need to wait till 2020s and then China will showcase mind-blowing weapons that will have people in awe.
