I would say it's probably the safest place to travel to.... When it comes to "fun"... That's subjective.

It's safe for sure.

As for whether it is worth going? Chinese have visa on arrival but so far I don't know anyone that has actually visited Saudi Arabia for non religious purposes.

Dude Saudi Arabia hacks journalists to death in embassies and supported countless terror groups. It also committs crimes against humanity in yemen. Do i want to sponsor a regime like that with my money?

Definitly not. I have no doubt that Saudi Arabia has nice nature and some interesting sites but i dont see myself going there.

Saudis seem to be modeling their country along the lines of UAE; commercial, modern, and focused on transitioning from oil wealth. They have already had a massive concert show and are inviting more media companies to invest in their media and convention center activities.

It might take some time for them to make the change socially speaking, but they will modernize now in order to ensure that the economic growth and returns are big. Finances are the only drivers of modern nation-states and once they are hit, every country changes tactics.
