SANA’A – A Saudi investment company revealed its plans for a mega investment project in Yemen, combining touristic, economic and cultural sections, with an estimated cost of $20 billion.

The Saudi real state and development company, Jousour Al-Khayr, announced that the project will be called “Jouzor Jannat Aden” (Islands of Aden Gardens) and will be built in the governorate of Aden, on 25 million square meters, by the Gulf of Aden.

Jamal Salem Bakhshwein, CEO of Jousour Al-Khayr, said the project is due to be completed within 10 years. “It will be similar to other mega projects in the region and Asia, it will serve Yemen, and will accomplish many ambitious goals,” he said.

Economic expert Dr Ahmed Said said this project will be the biggest real estate project in Yemen. It proves the reality of Saudi support provided to Yemen, at both official and private levels, with the aim of supporting the country and empowering it, as well as enabling the country to overcome the repercussions of the crisis which had negative impacts on all levels. The mega project will encourage other Arab and Foreign investors to consider Yemen as an investment option.

Said added that this project will place the Yemeni government under testing to see if it will keep its promises in investing through boosting security and to gain the confidence of investors in an honest judiciary system. Through this project, the Yemeni investment law will put an end to bureaucratic obstacles. – Agencies

I think another such huge investment of this size should be made in Pakistan to help pakistan overcome the difficult times today, not to mention that pakistan our only reliable ally with other GCC countries.

How are Saudi-Yemen relations Mosa? The President Saleh went to Saudi last year I remember when he got hurt in the demonstrations (which implies relations between the two are good now) but didnt you guys also have some border war/skirmish a while back?
Anyways this investment does not come as surprise, its actually more surprising that it hasnt come sooner considering Yemen is the next door neighbour of Saudi.

Currently it is fantastic because with Saleh (Who had Anti-Saudi Pro-Baathist ideals) it was ugly. Saleh was denouncing what he called "Saudi occupation of northern Yemen" which stretches from Jizan to Taif (Almost our entire south) which was based on an agreement with the King of Yemen and the time before they had a revolution.

In the year 2000 we have reached an agreement regarding our borders (of which we gave some of our territory to Yemen and keeping security over the border)

We supported the revolution against Saleh and financed the oppisition led by General Al-Ahmar against him, when he was hurt he came to KSA for medical treatment but he was kept in what you can say house arrest until we made sure the revolution is complete and then let him go to wherever the hell he is now. Right now tephe current government of Yemen is our ally and friend, and thus expect some of our not so neighborly countries to start to destabilize it while we will do our best to Build a Better countries for Yemen and Yemenite People.
