Saudi King replaces Crown Prince in cabinet reshuffle
King Salaman dismissed Crown Prince Moqren and replaced him with the Interior Minister Mohammed bin Nayef.
The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salaman bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia on Wednesday dismissed the heir to the throne, Crown Prince Moqren bin Abdul Aziz bin Saud, and replaced him with the Interior Minister Mohammed bin Nayef.
He is widely known internationally and to the US as Saudi Arabia’s counterterrorism czar and was previously deputy Crown Prince.
“We have decided to respond to his highness and what he had expressed about his desire to be relieved from the position of crown prince,” said a statement from the royal court, carried by the official Saudi Press Agency.
The King on Wednesday also named his son and Defence Minister, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, as Deputy Crown Prince. The Prince, who is now most likely second in line to the throne, is believed to be around 30 years old.
