In addition to the insult, Saudi belittle Indonesian further by killing the girl without prior notification to Indonesian government.

Siti Zainab: Saudi Arabia beheads 'mentally ill female domestic worker' angering Indonesia

Saudi Arabia has beheaded an Indonesian woman with a suspected mental illness accused of killing her reportedly abusive employer, in a move that drew the anger of Jakarta and rights groups.

The Indonesian government summoned the Saudi ambassador after Siti Zainab was executed in Islam's holy city of Medina, after more than 15 years on death row.

Amnesty International denounced the beheading as the latest in a "recent macabre spike in Saudi Arabia's state-sponsored killings", adding it was against international law to put to death a convict possibly suffering from mental ailments.

"Imposing the death penalty and executing someone with a suspected mental illness smacks of a basic lack of humanity," said Philip Luther, Amnesty's Middle East and North Africa director.

The rights group said that the execution was in breach of a UN a resolution urging states to refrain from capital punishment when people with mental disorders are involved.

Zainab, a domestic worker, was sentenced to death in 1999 after she confessed to stabbing to death Saudi woman Noura al-Morobei, who was described in the Saudi press as her employer.

Amnesty said sources in Indonesia claimed the woman had been mistreated at work and denounced the alleged cruel behaviour of al-Morobei and her son in two letters.

Indonesian NGO Migrant Care went further, claiming that Zainab was actually acting in self-defence when she fatally stabbed al-Morobei 18 times.

"She had no legal representation at any stage and did not have access to a consular representative during the police interrogation when she had made her 'confession'," Amnesty said. "According to reports, the police suspected that she suffered from mental illness at the time of the interrogation."

Her death added to Saudi Arabia's execution toll in 2015, which stands high at more than 60 people killed, with rights groups saying the country is well on track to surpass its previous annual record.

Zainab's capital punishment was delayed until her victim's youngest child reached the adult age required to decide whether to ask authorities to go ahead with the punishment or pardon the culprit instead.

After assuming office in October last year, Joko Widodo became the fourth Indonesian president to write to the Saudi King asking for clemency for Zainab. The appeals fell on deaf ears as the woman was eventually beheaded this week.

"The Indonesian government filed a protest against the Saudi Arabian government for not giving prior notification to Indonesian representatives or to the family over the execution date," Indonesia's foreign ministry told AFP.

Riyadh's envoy to Jakarta said the issue with the fellow Muslim state was not over the execution itself but about its timing.

Behead? She should have been evaluated by a mental health professional and in the case if mental disorder was found, she should have been pardoned. The right of self defense in the case of abusive employers should be respected.

If a mentally ill person kills someone, they are a danger to society. I think the more important question here is if her employer was abusive and if she killed her in self-defence? If she did so, then she should be set free immediately.

if you are mentally ill, you dont usually get punishment for crime, and sent to mental institution.. depending on how violent you are, authorities will decide how much they can restrict your movement.

The Gulf states are modern slave masters. They acquire slave from poor countries, chief of them, India, Pakistan, Philippines, Bangladesh and Indonesia. It is often in newspaper that slaves suffered pervert abuses.

The Gulf states know slave hate them and to prevent a modern day slave revolt, they got to punish individual cases of defiant hard, to frighten all the rest into submission.

This is utterly disgusting. I hope she receives the proper consular and legal aid and repatriated back to the Philippines. This is a lesson for all would be foreign domestic workers to examine the employers' background and to secure work form a credible work agency.

Saudis do a little favour to their own self and do not anger other Muslim countries or else already we can see what's knocking on at the gates.

I never consider these countries(Gulf n mullah type) worth of entire living species forget about human....
What is more disgusting is that a beheading of mental ill girl done in holy city medina ...
Life imprisonment would have sufficed n authorities could have allowed her to be cured n recover from illness during her imprisonment.... RIP......

So apparently there is no problem with Saudi's laws they just wanted a warning. This whole article sounds of UN Human rights blabbering. Don't know Saudi's laws on these type of cases with mentally ill people, but it's known for beheading in such capital crimes such as murder.

@Mosamania ?

This is why our government should stop sending OFWs to other nations, no exceptions. And at the same time, do an overhaul of the economic system to prevent relying on OFWs.

And the beheading of a mentally ill person, this reminds me of Aktion T4.

Fcuking gulf states are disgusting a hell. South Asians do most of the real work while the locals pay a pittance and even withholds money for the smallest reasons. If the wages are so low already, why not just pay it?

Oil is their power and they have grown indolent and fat. I hope that they remember the fate of Naru when their phosphate mine ran dry.

Pretty pointless, Saudi laws protect rapist. You need 4 male witness to prove that you're have been rape, or else you'll be stoned.

Illegal sex

There are certain standards for proof that must be met in Islamic law for zina punishment to apply. In the Shafii, Hanbali, and Hanafi law schools Rajm (public stoning) or lashing is imposed for the religiously disallowed sex only if the crime is proven, either by four male adults witnessing at first hand the actual sexual intercourse at the same time or by self-confession.[37] For the establishment of adultery, four male Muslim witnesses must have seen the act in its most intimate details. Shia Islam allows substitution of one male Muslim with two female Muslims, but requires that at least one of the witnesses be a male. The Sunni Maliki school of law, and Shia Islamic law considers pregnancy in an unmarried woman, or contested pregnancy in case of married woman, as sufficient evidence of zina.[38][37] If a woman such as a rape victim or uninvolved person alleging zina fail to provide four consistent Muslim witnesses, he or she can be sentenced to eighty lashes for unfounded accusation of fornication."[39] The requirement of four upstanding male Muslim witnesses to provide evidence for rape has been criticized as making it difficult for rape victims to achieve justice.[40]
