Saudi Arabia confirms that it will deploy troops to Syria
According to Saudi owned news organisation al-Arabiya, Saudi Arabia has confirmed that it will be deploying ground troops to Syria to combat the spread of ISIS. This announcement comes after several weeks of rumours that Saudi Arabia would move against ISIS. Such a ground operation will likely anger the Syrian government of Bashar al-Assad as well as the governments of Russia and Iran who will see the intervention as an attempt to slow the progress of the Syrian government against rebels, and also to limit the influence of Iran in the region. Iran and Saudi Arabia have been battling in aseries of proxy wars for several years – most recently in Yemen where Saudi Arabia accused Iran of supporting the Shiite Houthi militia but a leaked US cable claimed that the US believe the accusations against Iran to be untrue.

It is unclear at this time if only Saudi Arabia will deploy ground troops or if they will call upon their newly-formed anti terror coalition made up of over 30 countries, mostly from the Middle East and North Africa. Brigadier General Ahmed Al-Assiri from the Saudi military is quoted as saying “We are representing Saudi’s [decision] only” in regards to sending troops so at the moment it appears that Saudi Arabia is going it alone, however it is likely we will see other countries such as the UAE commit soon, as they are fighting side by side with Saudi Arabia in Yemen.

What this means for the fight against ISIS and the Syrian Civil War as a whole is unknown. Saudi Arabia has been been very clear that it will not accept Assad staying in power and has previously threatened to remove him ‘by force’ if he does not give up his power. With this in mind, the Assad regime could rightly or wrongly believe that Saudi Arabia will not simply leave Syria if/when ISIS is defeated. Subsequently, this increase in regional tension between Iran and Saudi Arabia could quickly spiral out of control into an international war within Syria.

So will it give Iran the right to deploy troops in yemen to fight "Al Qaeda" as saudi arabia has given itself the right to enter syria to fight "ISIS" ?

But I think sending forces to syria will prove to be a blunder and it can also cause even a bigger war between saudi arabia and iran. Pakistan should keep its hands off of that arab coalition.

If syrian rebels are mujahideen then yemeni houthis are also mujahideen by that same logic. Saudia calls houthis as terrorists and iran calls syrian rebels as terrorists. I don't see a difference. Both should stop meddling in each others backyards.

Iran doesn't call Syrian rebels terrorists, we call ISIS and those who murdered people terrorist ...

Saudi’s decision to send troops in Syria ‘final’

Saudi’s decision to send troops to Syria in an attempt to bolster and toughen efforts against militants is “final” and “irreversible,” the Saudi military spokesman announced on Thursday.

Brig. Gen. Ahmed Al-Assiri, said that Riyadh is “ready” and will fight with its U.S.-led coalition allies to defeat ISIS militants in Syria, however, he said Washington is more suitable to answer questions on further details about any future ground operations.

“We are representing Saudi’s [decision] only” in sending troops, he said.

He also sent a message to Iran, saying that if Tehran is serious in fighting ISIS, then it must stop supporting “terrorism” in Syria or Yemen.

Riyadh has long accused Tehran of supporting the Houthi militia in Yemen against the internationally-recognized government there. Iran is also a key ally to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime.

The statement comes as Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Crown Prince and Defense Minister Mohammed bin Salman visited NATO headquarters in Brussels to discuss the Syrian civil war.

The military spokesman also said that the Islamic Military Alliance will take effect within two months.

Thirty-five Muslim countries released a joint statement announcing the formation of the alliance against terrorism in December last year.

The alliance’s joint command center is located in the Saudi capital Riyadh.

So, finally it seems that KSA is going to fall

Hmm...17 Powers agree to ceasefire and Saudis agree to push troops into Syria...for all the truth....this is going to be a formal Saudi invasion of Syria...and eventually Saudis and NATO coalition will decide the fate of future Syria..:partay:

Saudi Arabia is moving into the hands of whole new generation of young prince...those days of cheque back, back door and soft diplomacy are over...there is going to be a more assertive and confrontational foreign policy taking shape..
