The motley crowd that gathered for the combined graduation parade at Air Force Academy near Dundigal here was greeted to a salute in air by the ‘Sarang’ helicopter display team of Indian Air Force on Saturday morning.

With Maa Tujhe Salaam playing in the background, four Advanced Light Helicopters (ALHs) of the Sarang gave the salute, winding up the aerobatic display after the parade. The crowd, including the Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal N.A.K. Browne, reacted with a round of applause.

The team also performed crossovers and a diamond shaped formation while the newly inducted Pilatus PC-7 Mark 1 presented a fly past. However, the amazing skills of Surya Kiran which flew jet aircraft Kiran at a speed of 700 kmph were conspicuous by its absence as in the past few years. The loops and rolling over with a blaze of coloured smoke by Kiran used to enthral the crowds then.

The drill display by air warriors continued to be another hallmark. The team held five-and-a-half kg heavy rifles in its hands like toys and swung them back and forth to the delight of the crowd.
