Desperate Shoaib Malik playing cricket for Delhi academy.
These are desperate times for Shoaib Malik. The former Pakistan skipper, who has been out of the national team for about a year, is turning out regularly for a Delhi academy these days. Malik has been practicing and representing Turf Cricket Academy over the past two months. Sachin Khurana,
who owns Turf Academy, says, “Malik was here as a TV expert for a channel during the World Cup.
He hadn’t been getting an opportunity to play cricket, so he asked us if he could play. He practiced with us at Modern School, Barakhamba Road, and even played in local events.”
The ties between the two have continued and Malik is turning out for them in the Turf Day-Night 20-20 tournament, which is run by the academy.
On Friday, Malik turned out for them against the Friends United Club at the Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce ground and scored an unbeaten 123 off just 57 balls. He hit 10 sixes and six fours and was named man of the match.
“He will be back from Hyderabad (after meeting his wife Sania Mirza) on Wednesday and could play that night’s game before going to Pakistan for a couple of days,” said Khurana. “He lives in Dubai and keeps coming to India. So this can continue.”
