While the whole country is condemning the assassination of senior journalist and rights activist Gauri Lankesh, it seems journalists and public figures affiliated to right wing organisations are busy celebrating the cold-blooded murder.
Former Zee news journalist Jagrati Shukla wrote on twitter: “So, Commy Gauri Lankesh has been murdered mercilessly. Your deeds always come back to haunt you, they say. Amen”.
The tweet has triggered a twitter war with several on social media condemning her stand.
Watch: Gauri Lankesh talking on hindutva and communalism and death threats
Condemning Shukla’s tweet, JNU students’ leader Shehla Rashid wrote: “Ex Zee News reporter Jagriti Shukla justifying #GauriLankesh's murder. RSS supporters on social media celebrating her assassination”.
Meanwhile, in a series of tweets, Shukla later tried to justify her outrageous stand.
Shukla was not the only one who could not hide his/her happiness over murder of the senior journalist, who was a vocal critic of BJP and RSS.
Several others endorsed her opinion claiming that “Lankesh received what she deserved”.
This not the first time Jagrati Shukla making news for her extremist view points, bigotry and communalist leanings.
An online petition was started last year in Change.org seeking her removal from Zee news.
Started by Deep Singh, the petition called on Zee Media to keep distance from such a view points by expelling Jagrati Shukla from the post of Asst. Producer in Zee Media.
“We are calling on Zee Media and advertisers of Zee Media to distance yourself from bigotry, casteism, Islamophobia, communalism and genocide denial by removing Jagrati Shukla from the air,” the petition read.
Several Malayalam social media users and journalists affiliated to Sangh Parivar groups have also found time to fling sexist slurs at Gauri Lankesh.
