SAA has recently received AK-74 rifles. Mujahideen, of course, only have AK-47 rifles which are not as good.

Syrian army retreated from raqqa province during past two days and many of them were killed including 3 russian advisors bcz there was no russian air support bcz of unknown reasons (SAA is blaming the sandstorm).

Airbases are too far from there. They had arti support. Mujahideen lost a lot more men.

The distance of airbase is not the main issue bcz the landscape is totally desert type and it is really easy for airforce to destroy the daesh assets one by one in the open. And why are you calling isis as Mujahideen? They are not. They are terrorists and khawarij as declared by every muslim country.

They call themselves mujahideen so that's what I call them.

okay. There are some news that SAA is preparing a counter attack against isis in raqqa province to take back the area from them. The reinforcements are coming from aleppo area but i'm skeptical about this news bcz in aleppo area al nusra is giving SAA a very tough time and i dont think they will be able to spare soldiers from aleppo.

They have enough manpower. 4th Division is deployed to Aleppo. More Hezzies are coming too.

SAA is giving tough time to Hezb. Hezb has to clear areas from terrorists again and again. Each time SAA retreats and again call in Hezb to take back and clear areas again from terrorists and handover to SAA.

Hezb has plenty of men. Islamists like them breed fast.

not right. Hezb losses in battle are mere as compared to terrorists. Hezb is battle hardened and most battles won in syria without any losses.

and Hezb is not that size of army. it cannot perform everywhere.

SAA needs more helicopter gunship support. Since gunships dont need airbases they can land on relatively flat areas near the battle and provide close air support behind the fighting army. More Mi 28s Mi 24s provided to SAA would be enough for the job against isis. The point is if the gunships are used as a standalone area clearance weapon as we see in some videos without combined forces it is an open target for manpads and aa guns since it flies at low altitude however when it provides fire support from enough range behind targets specified by the soldiers-recons on the frontline it would be less vulnurable to aa guns and manpads almost from standoff range.

Also in other topics we have discussed about air support provided by piston/turboprop engine planes. In ww2 it was common for planes to land on semi prepared rough makeshift runways which is ideal for modern close air support against low tech terrorists in my opinion.

Isis destroyed four russian helicoptors at T4/Tiyas airport with artillery fire so thats why russians are not operating many helicoptors there. This airport was located near the city of palmyra in the province of homs. That destruction gave a set back to the SAA and russian advance. That was one the best achievments of isis against Russians and syrian army. Russia should stop bombing civilians and must focus more on al nusra in aleppo and isis in al raqqa.

The point was helicopter base can be repositioned quickly. isis previous destruction of helicopters was planners mistake to stay close to isis artillery it had to be relocated. Also diving into enemy territory by helicopters makes them an easy target for aaguns and manpads. Close air support to army can be much better for gunship role behind cover from safe distance. It could have turned tide of the recent failed raqqa operation.
