Saad, Hashmi narrowly escape ‘N’ show-cause notices

By Shafiq Awan

LAHORE: Although politicians earned a good name through the 18th Amendment, the “democrats” among them closed the door for democracy within their parties as parliament passed the clause on intra-party polls unanimously, according to sources.

PML-N stalwarts Makhdoom Javed Hashmi and Khawaja Saad Rafique narrowly escaped show-cause notices for violating party discipline when they voted against Clause 6 of the amendment bill, which has done away with political parties’ obligation to hold intra-party elections. The PML-N’s defunct information secretary Ahsan Iqbal told Daily Times he was unaware of any notice, and said Javed Hashmi violated the party line just to score a point and Khawaja Saad Rafique got emotional while supporting Kashmala Tariq.

However, party sources said a notice was withdrawn when the party high command found that Nawaz Sharif’s son-in-law, Captain Safdar, was guilty of a similar violation over Clause 3 of the bill on the renaming of NWFP as Khyber-Pakhtoonkhwa.

Ahsan Iqbal dispelled the impression that in the presence of the Political Parties Act, the 18th Amendment could bar political parties from holding intra-party elections. He said Javed Hashmi stated so to pose as a champion of democracy. However, the sources said Political Parties Act would also be amended at an appropriate time.

Meanwhile, Khawaja Saad Rafique said he did not violate the party line, and opposed the clause because of his “conscience”. “My father, Khawaja Rafiq, sacrificed his life for democracy, and I cannot support any undemocratic clause,” said Khawaja Saad. He blamed the reforms committee’s “negligence” for not involving the clause in the constitutional package, and said Waseem Sajjad had assured him he would raise the point in the Senate. He said the leadership had no problem and the support for Kashmala was ideological.

The sources said while loyalists had persuaded Nawaz to serve a notice on Hashmi and Saad, they had been deprecated by “judicious elements” within the party. The “judicious” quarters have said that any such action would send the message that the party leadership was discouraging democracy and promoting dictatorship in case of dissent. The sources said that following heated arguments, the high command decided not to serve the notices. However, both Saad and Hashmi have been declared rebels.

On the issue of Hazara Javed Hshmi is more close to PML-Q.

This action will most probably get Makhdoom sahib a notice:

Hazara, other provinces in the offing: Hashmi

MULTAN: Pakistan Muslim League-N leader Javed Hashmi said Tuesday that nobody could prevent Hazara Division from becoming a separate province now.

Speaking at a Workers Convention here, he warned that anarchy could spread to the country if new provinces were not established. He proposed formation of a national commission to outline a policy for the establishment of new provinces in three to five months.

Hashmi said the 18th Amendment Bill was a historic decision. However, he noted there were few anomalies in the bill.

The PML-N leader said that solution of the country’s challenges was in decentralization, democracy and new provinces.

Here is PML-Q's stance:

Hazara should be declared separate province: PML-Q

ISLAMABAD: PML-Q Chief Chaudhry Shujaat said on Wednesday that the Hazara Division should be given the status of a province. He voiced his demands in PML-Q's CEC meeting convened to ponder over the issue of renaming the NWFP as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Javed Hashmi is on a clash course with NS and it will be loss for NS to have a leader like Javed Hashmi on the other side.

The differences between Nawaz Sharif and Asif Zardari are many despite the commonly-held beliefs for 'corruption'. Here are few:
1) Zardari faced jail and even some torture for 9+ years but, to this day, not even his worst critic can say that he was let go as part of any 'deal'. NS ran to the comforts of Saudi Arabia in about 2 years and kept denying any 'deal'. But later, when really exposed, admitted that the 'deal' was for only 5 years instead of 10 years.
2) Zardari tried to foolishly resist the Lawyer's Movement but ultimately ate the humble pie. And he ate the humble pie repeatedly in face of an over-reaching judiciary. But no judges were humiliated. Compare that with Nawaz Sharif's storming of the Supreme Court in 1997 even though NS had 2/3rd majority AND had virtual control of all the federating units of Pakistan.
3) Over renaming Hazara, the PPP is carefully keeping itself away from the controversy. If there is a consensus name for a 'Lala Land' then so be it. But NS signed up on the new name and now, sensing a political debacle where PMLQ might gain some leverage, PMLN is just starting to re-think its position. Had it not been the the removal of the 2-term limit for PM, NS would probably have not agreed with the 18th Amendment. Remember, PMLN has repeatedly said that they just want to remove the 17th Amdnt. for now. We know the real reason behind that. So much for a 'national' level leader!
4) Sheri Rehman resigned as a Fed. Minister. Aitzaz Ahsan was briefly sacked from the CEC. Even Raza Rabbani resigned from a prominent post (the Law Minister?). But all of them have been part of the PPP decision-making process now. Compare that with NS-led PMLN: It is a family show run by the two idiot brothers. One of them may be a good administrator but has no broader-vision and can even appeal to the Talibans. The other has a temper like Zulfi Bhutto except his IQ is perhaps half of Zulfi Bhutto.

i think javed hasmi is a better leader and a better person then nawaz sharif will ever be.

PML has lost its worth with that ridiculous step. PPP, PML-Q, PML-N, MQM, ANP, JI are all bunch of MF Loosers who D@M care about the people, D@M care about the democracy, D@M care about people's sufferings and are only looking to score points, make personal gains, have border power-share and influence over various departments of the country. BURN THEM ALL, throw a small nuke on our own parliment the moment their session proceeding.

Watch V for Vedanta and understand how this fcuking democratic system works. They are all hounds, blood and flesh hungry hounds who would live on poor and power-less people.

If this Q-League had to sell its mother because they would get some votes for that, they would do that. Any party would do that, all are beghareat self-centered b@stards. Laenat-Allah-Elaih.
