The industry’s nature is such that depending on circumstances concerning the product and customer, further information regarding the customer will not be announced. Görgen Johansson, head of Saab’s business area Dynamics, said: “We are proud to continue to support our international customer base with our Carl-Gustaf M4 which makes a difference when needed. These orders are further proof of the high demand for our ammunition and our ability to deliver innovative solutions that meet our customers’ requirements”.

Lightweight and multi-role, the Carl-Gustaf M4 increases tactical flexibility, enabling soldiers to deal with any situation. Built to satisfy future requirements, it is compatible with advanced fire control devices and prepared for specialized ammunition, putting advanced technology at the forces’ fingertips. Since its launch in 2014, Saab has signed contracts with fourteen different nations for Carl-Gustaf M4. The wide range of ammunition provides extreme tactical flexibility ready for any combat situation, delivering faster engagement, increased hit probability and greater effectiveness.

I do like the Carl Gustaf. It's good all-rounder. People sometimes get distracted with performance against tanks with this sort of weapon and forget that sometimes you need to take out a bunker/sniper group of infantry and other similar activities.

If it was a Indian order they would have been advertising it every opportunity they get like all their other purchases. Saab discloses the customer if it were a Arab state. Only Pakistan likes to keep it secret for as long as possible. So a possibility for us.

About time we replaced the RPG7. Although im confused. What about the Alcotan 100 we have?

Alotcan 100 is better at tank-roles than Carl-gustav (700MM of penetration and Anti-ERA capability with AT rounds versus 500MM of penetration. FYI RPG-7 with Its newer rounds can also penetrate 500MM of armor or even 650-750+ MM of armor with tandem charges, but it has half the effective range of the M4 Gustaf), larger calibre, proper built in FCS (Carl Gustaf can have optional thermal and NV sights but not an FCS that can auto-track targets).
Alcotan is usually reserved for Anti-Tank roles. This is more of a general use Weapon.

There is nothing wrong with RPG-7, it’s a simple lighter weight rocket for general use against soft armored vehicles, buildings, bunkers, dug in positions etc and it can easily mission kill a tank by destroying tracks/optics or if fired at the sides and rear (given the armor in use by the enemy does not have ample side protection, as is the case with PAs adversaries). Infact an Iraqi RPG7 with a tandem round achieved a mission-kill against an M1 abrams when it penetrated the front-side quarter.
However it would still be good to start replacing them Somewhere down the line.

Bangladeshi order maybe? Though iirc they already announced their order of 55 million USD in late 2020. Saab didn’t reveal the customers name then either, it was only revealed later by the army itself.

There is nothing wrong with RPG-7, it’s a simple lighter weight rocket for general use against soft armored vehicles, buildings, bunkers, dug in positions etc and it can easily mission kill a tank by destroying tracks/optics or if fired at the sides and rear (given the armor in use by the enemy does not have ample side protection, as is the case with PAs adversaries). However it would still be good to start replacing them.

PA doesn’t use those rounds much because they don’t use it in AT role. They use it in general purpose roles.

Thats what the Alcotans are for. They also Use AT rounds for SPG9 and M40 recoilless rifles. The rest are covered by ATGMs. The rounds PA commonly uses for RPGs are still good for over 300MM of penetration, enough to kill anything short of a tank.

Gustaf M4 would be a nice complement however, if we start buying them in small numbers to equip some of the forces that will be at the frontline. The RPGs biggest issue is it’s short effective range.

Bangladesh I believe, there were rumors floating about a few months ago....who knows as its all hush hush...the same website also said a couple of years ago that Bangladesh Army was getting AH-64E Apaches, so take anything they say with a grain of salt...

India is preparing for a major war. Look at their purchases for the past two years. Even the Covid economic downturn has not put breaks on their momentum. On the other hand, our economy remains in the gutters with an unending reliance on foreign debt.

I think you will find that they are rushing to fill gaps that are appearing.
They had an ammo shortage so had to make an emergency bulk purchase (They had enough for 10 days)
They still haven't replaced the LUH after the previous sales fell through because of corruption
The Mig21 will be flying for yet another 6-8 years because they can't replace it.
They haven't replaced legacy Shoulder launched SAMs because of...you guessed it corruption
The jaguar upgrade is not happening and they are now going to be retired.

I could go on, but the short of it is that they are realising that they are deficient or lacking in areas they thought they were already superior and are now scrambling in panic.

Our shoulder-launched SAMs are also legacy. I believed the same as mentioned in the first line of your comment. However, the breakneck speed of purchases demonstrates the hurry they are in. Now I think these are not being made to plug the gaps alone but to create stockpiles and equip frontline troops with some of the best armament money can buy.
