Outlines of an agreement that is being discussed between Iran and Russia:

  • Russian will build a Gas pipeline in Pakistan and connect it to Iranian Pipeline
  • Russian gas will be sent to PAK via Turkmenistan, Azarbijan to Iran and Iran through "Swap" mechanism will deliver the gas to Pakistan
  • Russian and Iranian companies on a 50-50 partnership will build under sea gas pipeline in the Persian Gulf and transfer the Russian gas via Iran (swap) to OMAN and other Persian gulf customers

Iran to make a killing while Pakistan gets killed thanks to Corrupt Imported Government and Corrupt Establishment.
Actually Pakistan will benefit the most..you get a gas pipeline and discounted Russian gas and stop paying 4 times the price of LNG from Qatar ( Qatar LNG is now being contracted by Europe)...4 or 5 times saving for Pakistan..Iran gets Transit fee..Russia gets to sell it gas...Arabs will be ok with that since it is Russian gas so PAK remittance will be safe..

Russia did propose while ago building a 1000kms pipeline from Russia itself to Pakistani city Karachi thru our Punjab it was called (PSPG) , I’m sadly guessing incompetence from our officials halted it . What a shame , relying on this 3rd country for your gas is never a good thing .

no Afghanistan halted that , 90% of your problems is Afghanistan

Makes no sense to import Gas via Iran when Iran herself is the super power of natural gas reserves

Years of sanctions have hurt Iran's gas infrastructure. Northern Iran is not well connected to the giant gas fields in the Persian gulf. Iran actually buys gas from from Turkmenistan since Turkmen gas reserves are closer to Iranian load centers in the north. Swaps with CIS would help Iran get around the limitations in its domestic gas system while helping the Russians sell gas.

Overall, it makes more sense for a Iran Pakistan pipeline that could eventually go to China and a separate Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan pipeline that would be connected to the Russian gas infrastructure, IMO.

will it be acceptable for the current establishment though? are they ready to take the anti-US/Pro-Russia stance and the pressure that comes with it?
Thouught IK was the leader going there (towards Russia) and look what happened to him (out of power)

I think it can be a win win for all sides. Russia would get a new mechanism to sell gas. Pakistan gets cheaper energy. Iran gets a work around for its gas infrastructure limitations.

Afghanistan has been the weight around Pakistan's neck for the last 40 years.

These vapour pipelines is just fodder for Pakistani fantasists.
They continue to fantasise about miracles coming to rescue them.

the pipeline in Iran is built , it just need to be connected to Azerbaijan pipeline and it already is connected to Turkmenistan.
the only thing is remined is the pipeline inside Pakistan , otherwise its already at Pakistan border

Eurasian integration is more likely then ever considering the events of the last 2 years. Its win win for all parties to complete these pipelines.

because of situation in Afghanistan nobody wants to touch it with a 10m pole .
so I doubt that route will materialize in near future

You may be right but I will wait and see. Taliban are more willing to support a TAP then the old Hindutva Afghan regime. Taliban need revenue sources and are more interested in developing the Afghan economy. The old Hindutva Afghan regime didn't care about developing the Afghan economy...… their entire economic model was to skim American and western aid.
