Russian aircraft manufacturer MiG has signed agreements with Indian firm Basant Aerospace valued at USD55 million as part of an offset deal, MiG's parent company United Aircraft Corporation announced on 28 August.
The two agreements will see Indian service centres maintain Russian systems in a move designed to reduce the cost associated with system maintenance and repair, improve fleet serviceability, and improve staff training.
The larger of the two contracts, valued at USD43 million, will see Russian radar manufacturer Fazotron-NIIR create an Indian service centre for maintaining the Indian MiG-29 Fulcrum fleet's Zhuk-ME X-band multimode fire-control radar systems.
The second contract, valued at USD12 million, will see a service centre for the repair and upgrading of India's MiG-29UPG aircraft established in India.
