ISLAMABAD: A Russian technology firm has expressed interest in investing in the electric vehicle industry of Pakistan with the latest technology called nanotubes.

In that regard, a delegation of the Russian firm, led by Igor Kim, met Adviser to Prime Minister on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam on Wednesday.

Talking to the delegation, the federal minister said the government was seriously focused on the issue of climate change and had taken several steps in that connection.

The adviser said the government had taken five initiatives to mitigate the impact of climate change which included the 10-billion-tree tsunami, ban on plastic bags, clean and green drive, focus on electric vehicle policy and green climate fund.

Welcoming the investment, the adviser told the delegation that the electric vehicle policy was on the cards and would be approved by the Pakistan government within a couple of weeks.

Once the policy was given the go-ahead, he said it would open new horizons in the areas of research and development and investment.

“The government of Pakistan has also planned an innovation district dedicated to electric vehicles and allied technologies. We want to make Pakistan a hub for right-hand-drive electric vehicles all across the world,” he added.

“The proposed policy will offer tariff incentives in order to make available electric vehicles at prices similar to those for conventional vehicles.” The adviser was of the view that Pakistan was a huge market for two and three-wheelers and there was immense potential for investment. “Currently, in Pakistan, 43% of carbon emissions come from the transport sector while electric vehicles will help reduce the emissions by two-thirds.”

The Russian delegation appreciated efforts of the Pakistan government and expressed the desire to introduce their products. Kim said the nanotube technology was being used in all sorts of materials with scores of objectives from reinforcement to enhancing conductivity.

He pointed out that their product was microscopic and was widely used in electric batteries, construction material, LED screen, solar panels, plastic, tires, conductors and clothes.

“Introduction of nanomaterial will add to energy efficiency by making it lightweight and minimising energy losses,” he added.

The masses welcome electric cars but the ICE cars manufacturers will sure be lobbying against you

I will say increase courses on power electronics, IC design(specially Quantum processors and chips) in our university courses, establish Fraunhofer institute like research institution in Pakistan and bring Russians and Germans in industry. No body can stop us then.
Give share to all provinces and territorial entities of Pakistan. Concentrate on small cities for science and research. Connects cities with railways, to sea. And ban on all industrial emissions.

Americans (Tesla) trump all in this domain. Bring them in industry instead.

WE need to strive for quality in every domain, and not settle for inferior options.

Bring Americans too, no worries. Keep home strong while making policies.

While your at it increase the electricity supply electric cars need to be charged there aint enough electricity for people let alone cars national grid needs huge upgrades as do transmission lines

It is a sad state of affairs in Pakistan due to terrible leadership at each and every Level of the country. Think about it logically - Promotion of electric vehicles means less petrol used in the cars. So let's assume that the Government makes major policy drives where it wants 50% of the vehicles in Pakistan using batteries within next 5-years. Now proportionally, the amount of petrol/diesel and other car fuels IMPORTED would decrease significantly because the energy fuels you are now using is purely to produce electricity. And this electricity charges the vehicles.

This is the type of Logical thinking that is missing from such a big country like Pakistan because it is deliberately being kept a slave with foreign imposed Ruling Junta in Pakistan. Pathetic.

I'm fairly sure that IK wants to get this done, but I think a lot of people miss a key issue-
going to 50% electric car use would require a lot more money than Pakistanis have. Even in the US where new electric car manufacturing is subsidized through tax credits, Tesla hasn't been able to conquer the entire market-because battery only cars are expensive. Until you can lower the cost of an electric vehicle to under $20k USD, most US drivers won't buy one.
This also ignores that industrial and residential electricity is the primary consumer of electricity in pretty much every country. If Pakistan wants to reduce fossil-fuel based power consumption, then LNG plants, thorium nuclear, and solar are the steps forward as they will ensure the lights stay on in Pakistan long-term, and as oil becomes more expensive as supply dwindles, then it will realize massive cost savings.
The biggest problem is the circular debt issue. Fix circular debt, then there will be options for growth in renewable energy.

There is. We have unused electricity now which we are paying to the Chinese due to that bad deals done. Where we have enough electricity and not enough distribution where we can distribute it and utilise all .
And new power plants too are coming such as nuclear in karachi and new Saudi investment in balochistan in wind plants. With 4 large dams such as mohmand, kuram tangi, thakot, sukhi kinari also to be made in 4 years on top of that add dasu which alone produce 2200 mw. So you would have enough power then you can imagine .

My brain is fine thank you but it seems there is a big bamboo stuck up your arse. Kindly remove that bamboo stick from your arse cause it looks terrible there. See ya.

We have enough electricity if we can prevent the electricity thief.
As far as electric cars are concerned, we should work with Russia and China.

Easier said than done. U want the adoption of 50% electric vehicles in the country in the next 5 years? How do u propose ppl will have the means to do so? Adoption of new technology at such a grand scale takes a long time.

First u must consider the cost of making electric vehicles...bcuz it's a rather new technology...they are in general more expensive than ICE cars.

Secondly u must take into account the purchasing power of the average person in Pakistan...it isn't much.

Lastly if the government or some private company(like Tesla is doing in the US) starts to sell electric cars to ppl...in order to draw customers towards ur product u have to address many of their concerns. One of those concerns is the range...this means that just like Tesla has invested in building its charging station network...just like that someone will have to invest quite a lot of money doing that. If it's a private company then that cost will be included in the price of the electric vehicles making them even more expensive.

At best the government can offer tax breaks and incentives to electric car manufacturers to setup shop in Pak...and possibly also offer some tax break or something to ppl who buy an electric car. That's about the maximum extent the government can go for...even then the mass adoption will take time...a long time.
