Ahead of Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to New Delhi, India on Wednesday termed as "significant" the first-ever visit of Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu to Pakistan during which they signed a defence cooperation pact.

"The first-ever visit by the Russian defence minister to Pakistan is obviously significant... India has noted that Russia like other countries have chosen to progress defence cooperation with our neighbour," Official Spokesperson in the External Affairs Minister Syed Akbaruddin said. He, however, said India does not want to comment on the relationship between two other countries and emphasised that India-Russia ties were vibrant.

India and Russia have "special and privileged" strategic partnership which was unique and multi-dimensional in the widest possible areas including defence cooperation, he said.

"We share common views on several global and regional issues. We are looking forward to Putin's visit next week," the Spokesperson said, adding that a "warm welcome awaits" the Russian President.

Last month, Shoigu paid a day-long visit to Pakistan during which he met Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and discussed several issues related to security and defence cooperation between Russia and Pakistan. The two countries inked an important pact on defence cooperation.

Although, Russia has always maintained that it will not sell arms to Pakistan, the development is seen as Moscow's attempt to capture the growing demand of that country for weapons and other hardware.
Earlier this year, Russia concluded a deal to supply Mi- 35 'Hind E' attack helicopters to Pakistan, putting New Delhi's defence links with Moscow under strain.

@rockstar08

No spokesperson can say that the visit of a Defence Minister of A BIG power
like Russia is insignificant or irrelevant

That would be RUDE to Russia saying that the Russian defence minister
is doing insignificant things

It is clear indian hubris to think that a major power like Russia will cowtow to them regarding it's national interest, for sure india will continue to have a close and mutually beneficial relationship with Russia, but this is not the 70's or 80's the world has changed.

Russia now want's a strategic partnership with Pakistan, india will just have to lie back and think of England. ;)

.
we are not dreaming sir ...
we only state what Russian Foreign minster offer us in recent visit ..

and we all are here to to see what will happen , even if we dont get any other weapons , it will not effect us much ,
RD-93 engine we can buy from china ..
Mil-35 deal is already signed ....
Mil-28E is optional , we are already in talks with US for AH-1z , Turk T-129 , and chinese Attack heli is an option too...
SAM's we can buy Chinese without any issues :)
Russians cant give us something that we cant get from any other source ,

and best of luck using your influence on Russia to stop selling weapons to Pak..
or in other words ...Cry harder :)
As it is going to affect us.....

See ....this is probably Russia's reaction bcuz we r now looking for other options and reducing our dependence on a particular country in arms imports
So.....it's obvious we have got options

But then again.....this news is overhyped
Pakistan can't offer anything to Russia.....neither the strategic alliance is going to give a boost to the already existing China Russia nexus nor Pakistan has the hard cash........
even the mki upgrades are going to be costlier than the deals Pakistan is currently having with Russia......

So.....just grab some :pop: and enjoy the tamasha
