finding modernization of Russian military and industrial complex ineffective, Russian Chief Of General Staff stated; Turkey By Far Better Than Us In UAV Development. We wasted lots of money($330 Million) to develop UAVs but Turkey's or Italian UAVs are superior than ours.

there is also a news about new Altay (first real) prototypes which will be reavealed by the end of this year!

he is right about it!!! ineffectivness and corruption is quite obvious! RSM-56 Bulava missile, recent failures in their space program, buying french Mistral amphibious assault ships, showing interest to israeli UAVs! but at least I am glad that T-50 is going fine I guess!!

Firstlets make fun of Russia a little bit...

Russians answer to US Predator...

First & Last Russian Secret UAV Flight - YouTube

The guy is talking about cost efficiency propably... Russia is not that bad at drones... I saw a stealth armed Russian drone in youtube actually not along ago...

Maybe they were flying the UAV on pure Vodka!!! It was having a lot of fun till it crashed, poor chap.

Well done Turkey. We need to have joint defence ventures between Turkey and India.

Russians have been the closest rival of usa for decades, specially in the field of defence technologies, yet we'll be no match for them for many years more..
developing uav's cant be more difficult than last generation fighters, right?

By the way when i saw the title i thought it was Turkey By Far Better Than Us(United States) .. what the hell.. :cheesy:

Well, Russia is pretty behind in the UAV development, this is no secret.

But how far is Turkey's development of UAV? Does anyone have an idea about it? :coffee:

Russia has experience with every defence industury except UAV's. Thats why they are having difficulties. UAV's software is very and very hard to write... You can see in the first video. Plane crashed not because of its aerodynamics or because of its motors but it crashed because of software insufficiency...

Most important thing for UAV's is software and thats the exact thing Russia has problem with even in Soviet times.

Turkey developed more than handful of UAV's... She is the third country after US and Israel to developed MALE class UAV...

hmm so you say russians can write codes for satellites, planes, fighters, choppers, air defence systems, battle manegemenet systems, supercomputers, ballistic missiles, nuclear weapons and stations, aircraft carrier systems, space stations, laser guns (they are building the world's most powerful laser gun 2.x megajul).. but they cant make a uav fly..?
i will think about it

Well Pretty far actually, We devolped UAVs in almost every type beside HALE but i have no doubt that we are capable of making one. We even Technolocigly support Germany for making there Talarion MALE UAV cause they dont have the capability to make suffient working software. The 25% of the Talarion will be Turkish mostly software.

Hahahahaha That sounds absurd but thats the reality... :) BTW: Russia went trhough a tech decline after Soviets. Most of the stuff Russia use is one or two decade behind. Thats why they are going to spen 1 trillion dollor in next 10 years for both R&D and Military.

It's a self criticism by chief of general staff! and emphasis is on ineffectivness and corruption! Bulava missile and recent failures in their space program are good examples and same concerns were voiced by Putin as well! dear damm1t you have to discuss this issue not with us but with Russian high command! this is their argument not ours!

concerning our UAVs

Program Definition:

The TIHA, Turkish Indigenous MALE (Medium Altitude Long Endurance) Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) System Program signed between the Undersecretariat for National Defense (SSM) and TAI at December 24, 2004 to meet the MALE UAV requirements of Turkish Armed Forces (TAF). Program covers design, development, production, test and delivery of three air vehicle prototypes, all related ground systems and technical documentation, consist of "Conceptual Design", "Preliminary Design", "Detail Design and Development" and "Tests and Evaluation" phases. During the development phase, a Systems Integration Laboratory (SIL), where system elements and their interfaces will be developed and integrated is established. Consequently, the TIHA System,

System Definition:

With TIHA system, which is developed for day and night real time image intelligence for surveillance, reconnaissance, fixed/moving target detection, identification and tracking missions; the following payload can be carried on board:

* Electro-Optical Day Camera (EO Day TV),
* Day Camera (EO-Electro Optic) / Thermal Camera (IR-Infrared) / LRF-Laser Range Finder & LD-Laser Designator and Spotter,
* SAR-Synthetic Aperture Radar / MTI- Moving Target Indicator & ISAR-Inverse SAR.

Full composite airframe is composed of monocock fuselage, detachable wing and V-Tail, retractable landing gear, equipment bays, service doors and other structural components. The air vehicle is powered by a pusher type piston-prop propulsion system. The airframe is equipped with miscellaneous sub systems like fuel system; de/anti-ice devices; environmental conditioning system for cooling/heating requirements of the compartments.

The avionics system includes a Flight Management System (FMS); integrated to FMS, flight sensors (pitot-static sensor, embedded GPS/INS, magnetic heading, displacement, temperature, pressure transducers), actuators; dedicated communication and identification devices; mission control, record; and other control and interface units.

Technical Specifications:

TIHA system basic performance parameters are as follows:

* Service Ceiling: 30,000 ft
* Endurance: 24 hrs
* Cruise Speed: >75 kts
* Environmental Conditions: 15 kts side wind, 20 kts head wind; temperature, humidity, rain and icing limits as defined in MIL-HDBK-310

Turkey has access to more advanced ToT than Russia. Being a member of NATO and all means they can have access to latest tech from US and not to forget Israel as well.
I highly doubt that they share blueprints of their UAV programs.
