The Russian Federation’s Air Force began their aerial campaign inside Syria on September 30th and since then, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and their allies have recovered over 90km of territory in the Aleppo Governorate; 25km of territory in northern Hama and southern Idlib; and over 35km of territory in northeastern Latakia and the Al-Ghaab Plains of west Hama.

Perhaps, the most important gains made by the Syrian Arab Army – since the Russian Air Force began their aerial campaign in Syria three weeks ago – have taken place inside the volatile Aleppo Governorate; this aforementioned province was immersed in a stalemate before the Russian Air Force began their airstrikes over the territory controlled by the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) and the western-backed Islamist rebels.

The east Aleppo front was relatively unchanged before the Russian Air Force’s participation, as both ISIS and the Syrian Arab Army struggled to gain ground against one another; this left the SAA soldiers at the Kuweires Military Airport in the Deir Hafer Plains under a brutal two year long siege that was imposed by ISIS.

However, in the last three weeks, the Syrian Arab Army’s “Cheetah Forces” (Tiger Forces branch) have captured more than 45km over territory from ISIS inside the Deir Hafer Plains, marking the largest series of gains made by the pro-government forces since the Al-Zabadani offensive in July.

West of the Deir Hafer Plains, the Syrian Arab Army’s 4th Mechanized Division – in coordination with Hezbollah, Harakat Nujaba (Iraqi paramilitary), the National Defense Forces (NDF), and Kataebat Al-Ba’ath (Al-Ba’ath Battalions) – have also captured over 45km of territory from the Islamist rebels of Harakat Nour Al-Deen Al-Zinki, Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham, and Liwaa Suqour Al-Sham in just three weeks.

In fact, the Syrian Armed Forces and Lebanese Resistance are on the verge of cutting the main supply route from Idlib to Aleppo for the Islamist rebels at Khan Touman; this aforementioned city is situated on the imperative Aleppo-Damascus International Highway.

Despite western critics declaring the Russian airstrikes as “ineffective”, they have proved to be a game-changer for the embattled Syrian Army that was unable to launch a ground offensive two months ago.

Aleppo was a major supply line to terrorists as the highways from aleppo connect to turkey. Once Aleppo highways is cutoff for rebels ,it will be another major achievement.

Thank you Russian military .

About 4 weeks of air strikes by russian jets but not a major victory on ground by the syrian army. The Saudi and US supplied arms are doing well for the rebels

But still its quite an Improvement . The US and Saudi can supply as much as arms . But they cant send their own soldiers for the dead Terrorists :P .. They will all be killed one by one

Compared to USA,Russian strikes are much more effective.

1% of Syria territory = 1864 km2.
90 km = 1/20 of 1%

At this rate Assad will need 200 months or 16 years to recover 10% of Syria territory.

P.S. Actually advance was due to Iranian mercenaries, not to bombings which make little difference.

That's because the U.S. is just targeting ISIS. We aren't bombing Syrian troops or rebel forces. So if Russia is bombing rebel forces of course the Syrian army is going to be in a better position.

The U.S. is calling Russia's bombing campaign against ISIS ineffective because the Russians are mostly targeting Syrian rebels.

blah blah blah . Call me when you can beat ISIS like Russia. Failed military USA. Russia launch caliber missile ,US aircraft carrier runs away from Persian gulf lol.

Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu told President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday that Russia has hit 112 ISIS targets in Syria since September 30, destroying 19 command posts, 12 ammunition caches, 71 military hardware pieces and six explosive device making facilities.

" The intensity of strikes is growing. Many targets were discovered in the past two days, command posts, ammunition and military hardware depots, militant training camps. All the targets were destroyed, no civilian facilities were damaged," Shoigu added.

Lots of terrorists killed

In this context, Syria's Ambassador to Moscow underscored that around 40% of the ISIS infrastructure in Syria has been destroyed since Russia began its military operations in the country.

syriatimes.sy - Russia destroys 40% of ISIS infrastructure in Syria in a week

They are effective because they are focused.

American strikes are just show pieces. A country ostensibly fighting ISIS terrorists and funding their own good terrorists! This hypocrisy cant go on.

Russians are not supporting any terror groups there. Hence its success looks more tangible.

As the article says there are gains around Aleppo. If supply lines of western backed terrorists are cut, they will have to think of other ways to fund and supply terror.

The good thing going for Syria is that no country will confront Russia directly in this conflict. All powerful regional countries and their supporters in the west are fighting this war through proxies. They will never come out in open to support their terrorists. This was Putin's calculation and he proved to be right.

I wish and pray for Syria and its people.

if you were a little better at math you would have understood that you can't compare m^2 with m .

good for SAA and RuAF I wish it keeps up. I am hoping by Christmas SAA and RuAF will be hitting IS territory from the sky and ground. now this if the rats haven't fled to Europe by then.

It's suppose to be a cold winter in Europe. I hope the rats don't freeze to death, but knowing the liberal governments of Europe the rats will have nice warm cozy flats to live in.

90 km in this article is 90 km^2 actually (Assadists captured some 15x5 km deserted land which is close to 90 km2). So my math is perfect.

Are you high?
News specifically mentions regained territory in Aleppo.
No offence but either you are a retard or just plain idiot with blind love for terrorists. People like you make me sick to stomach.

The Allies been pounding Germany for years before they were able to land at Normandy beaches. Give it 2 more years and you'll see the difference in Syria.
