MOSCOW – A Russian lawmaker said Thursday he would discuss the possibility of creating an international tribunal to detail US crimes during the Vietnam war with members of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe’s Parliamentary Assembly (OSCE PA), Sputnik reports.

Andrei Klimov, the deputy head of the International Affairs Committee of Russia’s upper-house Federation Council, will also bring up the issue during the September inter-parliamentary assembly sessions of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), involving the participation of Vietnam.

“I plan to discuss the idea of creating such an international tribunal with [our] colleagues during the OSCE PA session, which will be held in September in Mongolia,” Klimov told RIA Novosti.

The Vietnam war, which began in 1964 and ended in 1975, killed about 3 million Vietnamese and over 58,000 US nationals, as well as many people in adjacent countries, including Cambodia and Laos.

US Army investigators secretly confirmed over 300 war crimes committed by the US military, including murder, torture, rape, corpse mutilation and indiscriminate fire in civilian areas, according to the Crimes of War Education Project.

“In my opinion, Russia could raise the topic of the establishment of such a tribunal and should do so. Despite the fact that the perpetrators go unpunished for decades and even occupy senior positions in the United States, it is necessary to bring them to justice,” Klimov stated.

Hmmm.

What about US war crimes in Iraq, Libya, Syria? How many millions are killed and displaced?

However, I will give Afghanistan a miss, as I think US has a good reason to be there. But when they find it too hard to handle, they left as quickly as they can.

Yes, of course. The black budget has to come from somewhere. ;)

Under US protectorate, Afghan opium industry has grown several fold and many US high ranking officials deployed there got rich.

US soldiers were also engaged in arms and historical artifact trading. In Iraq, especially.

Like the Soviet Union aka Russia when they left quickly in Afghanistan? Don't know if they also committed war crimes over there when they went in, but somebody could bring that up.

Get strong, stronger, stronger, my Viet neighbor, this is the only way protecting own dignity and pride.

Andrei Klimov is being idiotic. This is a publicity stunt and everyone, including Klimov himself, knows it. Such a move would open the doors to Soviet atrocities during the Cold War, including Soviet and Chinese military advisors in Viet Nam who led POW interrogations.

Then we there should also be tribunals for Russian invasion, occupation and crimes against humanity in Afghanistan and other East European countries. What about Holodomor in Ukraine where Russian starved to death 6 million Ukrainians.
