NEW DELHI - Russia will deliver the aircraft carrier Admiral Gorshkov to the Indian Navy next year, a Navy official said.

A team of 150 personnel - technicians, managers and others -from the Indian Navy has already arrived in Russia for training on the 45,000-ton carrier, currently being refitted for Indian needs there.

India is paying Russia $67.5 million for the training, the official said.

The carrier will ultimately be manned by some 1,500 sailors.

In 2004, Russia signed a deal to refit and deliver the Gorshkov for $974 million, but the Russians subsequently demanded more money. The work was delayed until the Indian government finally agreed to pay a total of $2.33 billion, the official said.

The Navy also placed a $526 million order for 16 MiG-29K aircraft, which began arriving last year and are currently on shore at Goa. These aircraft will fly from the carrier, which will be renamed INS Vikramaditya.

India currently operates one carrier, INS Viraat, and is building another, the Air Defense Ship, slated to enter service in 2014.

Yes! :yahoo:

India will induct its 3rd carrier in 2014 (Vikrant)

will there be a fourth? Because on an industrial visit to cochin shipyard, we were told the work on carrier was underway . I remember vaguely someone mentioning two carriers being built in cochin? Correct me if i am wrong.

Btw, they never let us into the shipyard, we had to be content with the dock :blah:

Yes, another is on order, work will start after 2014 i guess. And Viraat will be retired in/after 2020. So we'll be having 3 carriers from 2014.

1.INS Vikramaditya [Gorshkov] By 2012
2.INS Vikrant [IAC 1] Built at Cochin shipyard , Sea trials By 2013 , commisioning by 2014
3.INS Vishal [IAC 2] will be Built at Cochin Shipyard , Order expected to be placed In coming months , Commisioning By 2017-2018

INS Viraat will be Retired by 2020.

Navy will have 3 Operational carriers By 2018 , And work On IAC 3 Possibly will be named ' Viraat ' would have been started By then.

Great Future for Navy

If you are not using some kind of translator, then you badly need to improve your linguistic skill w.r.t. English.

On the topic, you have proven to have absolutely no idea about why India is taking Gorshkov from Russia. For quite genuine reasons (that you seem unaware of), India is wary of all other nations that are capable of building ACs. Even if this deal were to cost even more, India would have gone ahead with it.

P.S. Usage of such language by you shows nothing more than the quality of citizens produced in the most populous state of this world.

we want some subs to and more destroyers to make a full fledged acbg

So any clarity which one will Nuclear powered? Or MoD is still figuring it out?
