Artyom Zhitnev, MOSCOW, April 10 (RIA Novosti)

Russia has tested a new thermobaric rocket for its TOS-1 Buratino and TOS-1A Soltsepek multiple launch rocket systems, the Izvestia daily reported on Tuesday.

The tests took place at the Prudboi site in the Southern Military District.

The new missile can effectively engage targets at a range of up to six kilometers.

It has a 90-kg warhead, uses a new thermobaric mixture and has a new motor.

The new rocket will be mounted on a T-72 and T-90 tank chassis.

The TOS-1 Buratino multiple rocket launching system carries 30 rockets and TOS-1A Soltsepek has 24.

Solntsepek translates as “blazing sun.”

They are coming back again.
this baby is a badass system.
they need to develop an defence shield for it. the top looks very vulnerable to attack.

This thing looks badass except that it won't work against Armored brigades so in general it is not very effective in conventional warfare.

Here the key word is Thermobaric i.e "fuel-air bomb"

A Human Rights Watch report of 1st February 2000;

The [blast] kill mechanism against living targets is unique–and unpleasant…. What kills is the pressure wave, and more importantly, the subsequent rarefaction [vacuum], which ruptures the lungs…. If the fuel deflagrates but does not detonate, victims will be severely burned and will probably also inhale the burning fuel. Since the most common FAE fuels, ethylene oxide and propylene oxide, are highly toxic, undetonated FAE should prove as lethal to personnel caught within the cloud as most chemical agents.

It's very effective against infantry personals, but, I am wondering, why it's fire range too short? although there are system like Glonass and GPS guide those missiles to there targets for long distances with high hit accuracy rate.

Victims would be burnt! you mean incinerated...

Wan't it already there in Russian forces, so they upgraded the system.
