Concerning the ongoing Sino-Philippine Huangyan disputes, Russia openly voiced its objection for the first time against any meddling in the South China Sea by "outsiders", namely, non-claimants.

Russian Federation Ambassador to Manila Nikolay Kudashev said over the weekend that Russia is "mindful" of the fact that, countries like the United States, which is not a party to the dispute, has been playing a role in the escalated standoff between China and the Philippines.

This is the first time that a Russian government official has spoken directly about the Sino- Philippine island spat.

The Russian envoy said Russia would favor "a peaceful, negotiated solution by the regional countries, by the countries involved themselves, first and foremost, on the basis of talks and dialogue."

With regard to the "outsiders" or countries not directly involved in the dispute such as the United States, Russia, and Europe, Kudashev said that they all possess "convincing legal experience, legal practice and maybe even some ideas."

"If they are being invited by consensus to enrich the legal process, the negotiating process, then it is okay," the ambassador said. "Well, otherwise we would prefer the regional countries to come to a consensus first," he added.

A very timely support from Russia during the US/ASEAN summit the weekend. Without naming names we all know who the outsiders are.

If I'm not mistaken, Americans also have similar views. Both Russia and America are supporting a negotiated peaceful solution with all stakeholders, not allowed to use force and not allowed to be aggressive and bullying.
They also do not support the so-called "bilateral" negotiation for a multilateral dispute as SCS.
Both Russia and the US want to see that.

tell that to Gazprom who are investing in a offshore block in VN :woot:

It is located in Vietnam's EEZ, not in disputed areas.

China aggressive and bullying? Let me give you a time line.

China has been asking every claimant in this dispute to negotiate for years. Sometime in mid April, a Filipino plane spotted Chinese fishing boats in Huangyan Island. Aquino sent his biggest warship in an attempt to arrest the fishermen and was blocked by 2 Chinese surveillance ships. The standoff became a stalemate and last till now without anyone firing a shot. No aggressiveness from both sides.

But in between Aquino, thinking Uncle Sam would've him, made all kind of belligerent rhetoric to anyone who would listen. He tried to enlist the other ASEAN countries to help but was rebutted. He told the world media, just like you guys here, how aggressive and bullying China is and the gullible media took his words and gave China a bad light.

China finally had no choice and, rightly so, gave him a little embargo. Aggressive and bullying? I would say China was too nice and timid in this whole ordeal.

Russia is now only a regional power, less strength means nothing.

China alone can handle the area if I am not mistaken. But China is somewhat hypocritical, pretending to be affected by outsider like the US. Guess China want to see the baseline of the US's west pacific policy.

China and the US are global player, I doubt South China Sea is all we are talking about, it's has implication of global affairs. South America, Africa, even Europe.

But he has invited China to international court to resolve, but China has refused the same time send many larger ships to Scarborough Shoal. The number of Chinese ships much larger than the two ships of the Philippine Coast Guard in the dispute area.
How explain?

The last time China put her fate for others to decide the results were 8 countries divided up Shanghai and other cities around the country. Those humiliate days are in the past, China is a big boy now and is capable to handle any disputes without relying her fate on a third country. Only cry babies do that.

If so, stop crying when the "babies" get the help of other "big boys".

You ever hear that American song:'Big Boy Don't Cry'?

It talks about China?

Why you guys keep dwelling on the past? Russia needs China to counter the US so obviously she'll side with China on many issues and vice versa. Vietnam is just a client state and a customer, sorry to say a poor one at that, for Russia so is not in the same caliber as China.

Sir, he asked me why China doesn't want to go to International Court, and I gave him my answer. As far as why Chinese ships are bigger that Filipino ships, that's like dyck measurements which I don't want to go into. But I know for sure it wasn't as big as the warship that Aquino sent originally.
