Russia says can’t participate in G7 summit without China

New Delhi/Moscow, June 10 (IANS) Russia on Wednesday indicated that it will not be part of the expanded G7 summit as proposed by US President Donald Trump because it is aimed at isolating China.

One of Russia’s most influential parliamentarians from United Russia, the ruling party, Konstantin Kosachev, who is also the chair of Russia’s Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs in a video conference told select mediapersons in New Delhi that though Russia appreciated President Trump’s “sober estimation” of the ineffectiveness and inadequacy of the G7 without other powerful nations especially China.

Kosachev said the invitation was problematic because the four countries – “Russia, India, Australia and South Korea” whom President Trump has invited, will be there only as witnesses without any influence on the decision-making. The invitation, he added, was more about targeting and exclusion of China, than anything else. Moscow has asked for explanations from the US about it, the Russian parliamentarian said.

Responding to a question whether the US-China tensions were emerging into a new Cold War, the politician said that the Cold War between the US and Russia was not over yet. Lashing out at the US and the West, Kosachev said the US has been continuing with the policies of weakening competitors through various means to avoid fair competition.

The Russian legislator said that Russia’s relationship with China was the strongest ever in their history and it will only grow stronger as the US’ anti-Chinese campaign intensifies.

When asked about Moscow’s position on the ongoing face-off between India and China along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh, he said Russia practises non-interference in bilateral issues and believes in being an “honest broker” of peace to prevent any use of military force.

Describing the India-China standoff as a bilateral issue, the Russian foreign policy strategist said, “We understand the sovereignty of India, we understand the sovereignty of China. I really believe Russia should not interfere in these kinds of disputes.”

He added that good relations between Moscow and Beijing and good relations between Moscow and New Delhi are two factors which provide a good opportunity for finding solutions to problems that exist between China and India.

In response to a question about India’s absence in the Afghan peace process, he said in Russia, the Taliban is classified as an extremist movement, but not prohibited and it has to be recognised as an important player in Afghanistan. “I am absolutely in favour of having India as an important participant in the ongoing peace process. I would recommend Russia to take efforts to involve India as much as possible,” he said.

Russia is a true friend and ally of China, China and Russia together is the unrivaled force that no one can taken on on this planet.

Not sure about that, maybe this is an over statement

in fact more than 70% of Russians have negative thoughts about China. They worry that China will one day attack and steal their siberia. They think the Chinese are yellow thieves or locusts from the far east.

I read a lot of comments on youtube, topwar and many russian websites. No Russians trust China and think the two countries are allies. Maybe Putin has the same thoughts as them, but he always praises the friendship between the two nations. Politics is a lie.

Russia is no friend to China. In fact, Xi’s friendship with Putin is a betrayal of the Chinese people
  • Russia has little to offer China, other than a means to antagonise the US. Xi’s courtship of Moscow makes no sense because it ignores the animosity that has defined Sino-Russian relations since the Treaty of Nerchinsk in the 17th century

We all know that very well, there are no eternal foes nor allies, but in recent decades, Russia has shown that it stands with China in almost every major international issue while India betrayed Russia several times by choosing siding with US.

Does he represent the Chinese people or the Chinese government? He represnts China no more than I do.

In that case 99.9999% Posts/opinions on this forum and the whole world, including internet are null and void as they are NOT from Govt.. Sources and they do not truely represent "official" stand of their respective Govts.

This is from a Russian :

Russia analyst: China and Russia are partners, but not quite allies

Presidents Putin and Xi Jinping, while seeing eye to eye on many world issues and enjoying an excellent personal rapport, continue to prefer the “never-against-each-other-but-not always-with-each-other” formula for Sino-Russian ties.

They are international polls as well, the vast majority of the Chinese people see Russia as a friend and an ally, but of course a handful of the people hold the opposite opinion, that's common in every country.

Some fears have derived from China's own rhetoric however. In 2016 Foreign Affairs Minister Fu Ying remarked that some Chinese people feel there is unfinished business in the Russian Far East, as highlighted by Robert Service in his 2019 book 'Kremlin Winter'.
