Russia Sanctions: India Profiting From Russian Oil Trade by Exporting Refined Petroleum

.
That is exactly what boggles my mind. As if the US genuinly fears muslim nations becoming too strong.
Its simple. Pakistan and B'desh can play China against US. India can not. India does not have that liberty. Which means any investment done on Pakistan and B'Desh is a waste as China will see it and raise it. And any little bit of liniency done with India can be called during a conflict with China. Likewise, B'Desh and Pakistan will NEVER go against China. India can -- though no comments on its ability to achieve anything material against China.

India did a masterstroke in foreign policy when it comes to balancing between USA Russia and China. Its a member of China led BRICS, SCO and NDB but also so called Quad and a US ally.
BRICS SCO etc are not exactly military blocs. Plus India joined in SCO due to Russia. As far as China goes. Everyone is going to do trade with China. Does not matter if they are enemy or friends of china.

Its a reasonable point you make here, but theres a small problem; It not BD or Pakistan who trades most with China. Its you guys, India. Your bilateral trade has swelled to 150 billion USD. China has 70 billion USD trade surplus with India. Which means American investment end up in the pockets of China!!!

Whats more, this trend is likely to continue for many more years, maybe even accelerate.

India can also play China against USA, remember Hindi-Chini Bhai Bhai…? realpolitik is a strange animal

This is not a question of minor trade issues. India has a strategic geopolitical issue with China and no resolution can happen on that. BD and Pakistan do not have any such issue with China. So they know which side of the bread is butter ie they have nothing to gain by fighting with China and everything to loose.

Few 100 of billions are peanuts in that game for USA. To be frank, by your logic, biggest trade partner of China will be USA itself! Trade will take a backseat in the game of geopolitics. Geography decides destiny of practically everything. Trade is just a minor part of that equation.

So, during the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan... Saudi's lowered the price of crude to hurt the Soviet war effort... eventually leading to its disintegration.
Interestingly, Saudi's want to max out of current predicament and it is the Russians that are directly engaging petro-dollar by lewering in countries not only by selling it cheap but enticing them away from petro-dollar and either trading bilaterally, in domestic currencies or in ruble.

And Pakistan unlike then can really benefit this time around...
The position of U.S. changed as well vis a Pakistan... as then Pakistan was beneficiary of U.S. printed inflation but now it can primarily hurt Pakistan.
The coercions persist... however the preamble and it's deductions are widely different.

Can it hurt more than it could have ever helped?
If weighed evenly, what are the pros and cons of current Russia US dynamic and does pain outweigh benefits?

Pakistan and Bangladesh dont have the refining capability for Russian crude oil.
All this discussion is moot.
India is enjoying the fruits of its independent foreign policy. But the western countries can impose restrictions after they themselves wean their refineries off Russian crude.
At the moment European countries are taking massive amounts of oil from Russia, so pointing at India just makes them look stupid.

.
It has nothing to do with size. The USA could easily put sanctions on India but choose not to, because they fear of pushing India too far into Sino-Russian camp. For many strange reason US has not choosen to give countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh and Indonesia the same favor. That is exactly what boggles my mind. As if the US genuinly fears muslim nations becoming too strong. It had no problem with pumping up China and now India, but it cannot tolerate any single European or Islamic nation being too big and powerful.

Indonesia state owned energy company, Pertamina, is benefiting from Russian oil. The refinery has not yet ready to get Russian oil, not until July this year, but their oil tankers business has been used to transport Russian oil into China.

But yes, seems this Greenpeace only target Indonesian tankers while closing eyes on the fact during that time European tankers still buy Russian oil

"We"???? Who is this "we"? Greeks are so lazy and bankrrupt that they do not buy or sell anything from India. Now go back to being irrelevant.

After Brexit, EU and UK both need India.

Is India not still on food aid?

Indians with their underhanded tactics. But hey, can't say much when European countries are doing the same for now, wonder why the USA lost its mind when Pakistan did the same...

Nope!

India exports food. Indian government has not recieved any foreign aid or donations since 2010 or so.

Au contraire, India is providing food aid to likes of Sri Lanka --supposedly having higher per-capita GDP than India.

US never lost mind or anything. Pakistan herself is not doing anything right now.

Then why its so filthy? I had a teacher visiting there and she said she never saw such extrem poverty

Being dirty has nothing to do with having lack of food or poverty. We have food. Infact in terms of grains and milk, excess of it. Here is the banger... even the poorest in the most remote parts of India can muster enough money to throw grand wedding ceremonies of their children or other religious celebrations. Its not that they are filthy because they are very poor -- there are some really poor people in India, true; its more like, they are filthy because they kind of don't care.

Indians just do not care about hygiene or others. Civic sense is absent in India. Does not matter how rich or poor the people are. Its a behavioural and social conditioning -- plain and simple. We throw the garbage on the street --while keeping our own homes clean; irrespective of how rich or poor people are. We love to relive ourselves in open -- even though we have toilets at home. There is much less to do with poverty than cultural and behavioural pattern. For instance, bangladeshi became open defication free much earlier when they were much poorer than us. We just choose to live in filthy manner. Nothing I am proud of, but it is what it is.

That being said, it is still 3rd largest economy of the world by PPP, a major market and an important partner of USA in its "contain China" policy. For that we get some perks... one of that is we can bypass certain sanctions with no fear of repurcurssions.

India is being allowed to get away with busting sanctions mainly because the volumes it is dealing with is too small to be worth serious headache to the Western bloc. Plus possibly they themselves are offtaking some of this refined crude. If Indian volumes were large enough I am sure US would crack down.

The article is propaganda, to be written like India is taking advantage of Russia's oil price.

Like India is the bad guy.

But the truth, India is just doing business as usual.

Besides India is a friend of Russia, the relationship between India and Russia is close.

I don't think this article is matter.

By not buying Russia's oil, India actually is a victim, for being an idiot and suicidal.

yup riaz is being insidious in trying to cast India as the bad guys for buying Russian crude.
Taking a leaf out of immy.
India is looking after its economic interests while simultaneously poking usa in the eye.
The amount of antipathy in Indian government circles against usa and uk is reflected here.
India proudly holds one of the worst records in supporting usa in the UN.
We see through western, especially American hypocrisy.
